Forwarded you other friend's PM at FFShrine.
Im almost done refreshing Wendell's Windows 7 install.

Wendell 2.0 is a go!!

One of the main differences in his setup this time around is the Windows Desktop. I'm going to place all the program launchers on the taskbar from now on, since I'm getting used to how Lilly's program launchers are also in one place. So, that means the desktop will remain pretty clean.

As for programs, Chrome is now my default browser, with IE coming in second for Webkinz use. I also ditched Weatherbug for a Yahoo Weather desktop widget.

Now, here is hoping I don't have to call Microsoft to activate my student copy of Office 2010. I already activated it about two months ago, meaning I'm still in the six-month activation window.
Friday.
PS2 controller I bought this New Year for the lulz:

I know I have a USB gamepad already, but since I'm looking for something that looks and feels like Sony's I thought of getting another one for testing purposes. For obvious reasons I have to use an adapter in order to use it on a PC. Trust me, despite what the sales rep says that the adapters won't work on Windows 7, it does, although you might have to download a driver for vibration to work.

What kind of gamepad did you have before?

I need to get a game pad for Wendell. Tongue
As what I've said earlier, I do have a USB gamepad - one a Dualshock 2 lookalike, which ended up broken after a few drops, and another a translucent one similar to this:

You'll have to use an Xbox 360 controller emu if you want to play Xinput games on it, though. Most newer games, to be specific.

I guess only time will tell if he'll reestablish contact. He's hiding from everyone he knows. No one knows why, but I respect his privacy. I will not attempt to pursue reestablishing contact with him.

Wha?

Hmm...well, I guess that settles it then. We should leave him alone until he is ready to come back online.

As for that disorder...could you send me a PM on what the particular name of it is? I would like to research it. I have a hunch on what it may be though, but for the sake of privacy, we should keep it as the "one that begins with the letter a"

Overall, this brings closure to why he has been avoiding us and the internet in general, even though we don't really know why he cut off contact. He could have at least said something before going away, such as a simple goodbye.

But...at least we know he is perfectly fine and alright.

It... doesn't bring closure at all. The "one so prevalent on the Internet that begins with the letter a"; why the secrecy? I know what that means, I think we all do, and I do not care for how one could infer the implication that there is a connection to the Internet in backwards cause-and-effect terms, as most affected existed before the Internet and we do not need erasure or false epidemic propaganda. The only web connection is that written communication can be easier than verbal communication.

I don't want to get in people's faces and be "the type of female that begins with a b" - oops, too late - buuuuut I don't see how this explains aaaaaanything.

~

All right, I'll send a plea. Hello, person. You don't know me very well... but your friends have been very worried about you, and consequently, so have I. If you are avoiding contacts because of what I think you are avoiding contacts for, there is absolutely no need. Come now, I know your friends would not hate you for it, and they wouldn't be real friends if they did.

The medical model of disability is flawed and not humanistic. I have "that thing that starts with a" and don't really like saying I "have" it for the same reason I would not like saying "I have the condition of femaleness" (instead of "I am female") because I feel it is too big a part of myself to imply that it is something one could have and lose. At least three of my daughters are affected by "that thing that starts with a", as are several of my in-person friends, as are most of my siblings. I recognize that I am rare in terms of where I stand with these friends and relatives, but my variety of life experiences have taught me that there is no shame in being who you are. The world will tell you to be yourself without giving much thought to it, and the world will tell you the opposite if you are disabled.

The world doesn't put effort into seeing the benefits and value of disabled people within the framework of society, because such value usually isn't obvious right away. As I said, the medical model is not humanistic and thus is not fair to humans. I know it isn't fair. I know we have to work several times harder than others, and it can be downright exhausting. If you're as physically pathetic and prone to stress as I am, then the exhaustion can elevate unbearably.

Friends are more understanding than you give them credit for, though. People that have worried about you for 3/4ths of a year are concerned and wanting you back in their lives. Surely admitting imperfection is better than being so lonely.

Well, I was reluctant to post it's name because said friend who unearthed that was reluctant to post it to the thread discussing said friend's disappearance at another forum I'm in. Plus, apparently in the US, this condition carries a mixed connotation. Perhaps anywhere in the world for that matter. I'm considering undergoing diagnosis myself given that I realized how some of the symptoms listed on Wikipedia applies to me, but then someone pointed out that if positively diagnosed, I may lose my job. May, because I do not know what is my company's policy towards employees with special needs. Right now they just think I'm a bit of a weird mad scientist genius.

Actually, said sister posted that back in 2009. None of us knows of his sister's blog until now. Something must have happened to him in June that caused him to become afraid and hide from everyone.

Sorry to disagree with you, but to me, it does bring closure indeed. Reason? I know he is alright, healthy, and still alive. THAT is what I was worried about. I was worried that he may have disappeared on the internet because something horrible happened to him. But now that I know that he is perfectly fine, I can rest my mind, at least partially. And to me, that IS closure, even if you don't think it is at all.

But now....the thing is...why? We may never know unless he suddenly decides to go back online someday.
cpd2009 Wrote:But now....the thing is...why?
That line doesn't sound like a closure to me. Unless we are at the end of a mystery movie or such.

Weekend again, complete with heavy rain and storm.
