Well, it's 2013... why not some Spring Cleaning?

Alright, it's more like Winter cleaning, but I need to get some redundant recordings off my DVR or else I will run out of space.


Also, I'm having fun with "Sonic Jam 6". Not only can you stomp on piranha plants, but you can keep bouncing on shells as long as you are against a wall. I was able to max out the score at 999990, but it went back to 900000 shortly thereafter.

Since my Genesis portable is emulation based, there is an issue with the Lakitu on the levels he appears in. He shoots out far too many spinys. In some PC emulators, it would normally lock up, but here, it keeps chugging along, but with the amount of spinys coming out, you face certain death unless you execute certain tricks to kill off Lakitu in levels 4-1 and 6-1. As for 8-2, forget about it. You will have no chance getting past him there without a mushroom.

Oh, and if you keep messing around with Lakitu at a certain spot, the game will eventually freeze.

As for actually completing the game? It's possible, but the controls are just awful. You literally can't land on single blocks while running as Sonic is so slippery in controlling whether he goes left or right. As many people know with SMB, world 8-3 has some single blocks near the flagpost. If you ever get there, have fun trying climbing the stairs!

Sonic also can't run over single block sized chasms either. This makes the world 4 castle near-impossible to complete because you have to go through the castle in a certain path or the stage just loops. And one such path has lots of those block-sized chasms. I'm sure one has gone across it as there is a complete lets play on YouTube, but I can't get across it due to the horrid controls.

Even though this game is beyond bad, I'm surprised at a few things the Chinese programmers got right, such as the correct pathways through the castle, 1ups and 100 coins = 1up. Even so, it's still a bad game. I just like playing through it so I can exploit it's bugs and see what weird stuff can happen because of it.

Back when I was still using Jasper at home, I noted that every time I turned him on, our modem would stop working correctly. We couldn't get on the internet, and so, I had to reset the modem nearly every time I had to turn Jasper on. That went away when I got Lilly, so I thought it was Jasper's power supply that caused the issue.

But, the issue has returned. I placed Jasper's old 160gb hard drive in my new BYTECC enclosure, and while it works great, the same modem issue happens when I turn the enclosure's power on.

Obviously, it wasn't Jasper's power supply. Now I am starting to think that the hard drive is emitting some sort of EMI that is causing our modem to lose connectivity whenever the drive powers on. As part of a test, I did have our landline phone with me while turning on the external hard drive. The internet went dead again, but I did not hear any unusual static or noise on the landline either. For the record, the modem and router are just right above me upstairs, so it's not that far away from the hard drive.

I am wondering if it's the phone line that connects to our modem. It looks rather old, and it may not have good shielding against interference. I think I have some better quality phone line laying around somewhere, and I will swap out the cables to see if the issue goes away. The landline phone uses another, newer looking cable, and seeing as how I heard no static while turning on the hard drive, that cord may have better shielding.

I do have access to another computer, and so, I may take out it's own hard drive and place it in the same enclosure to see if I get the same results as with Jasper's old hard drive.
