Been playing fun video games lately. It's nice to be able to escape to fantasy worlds of adventure where I can.. like.. "be more me" if that makes sense. >_>

Still, my real life is going pretty well too. Alexia should be getting her income tax check soon which she is going to use to get a nice computer herself, and then we'll do all the gaming together.

We can do stuff around town soon too! We just are both tired of Flagstaff.

Thanks for all the warm well wishes everyone. I returned last night, and I'm taking things easy. I'm starting to feel better already, and the outlook is wonderful.

Not much here, other than celebrating my recovery a week after my surgery. I haven't felt this good in years!

I wish I wore green when running errands around town today. I was stuck with a Halloween shirt today, which is a bright orange color with a haunted house image in the front. I was wondering if the passers by thought I was a hunter. My shirt is that bright of an orange, a color you see a lot in my town during the fall hunting season.

So many assignments this week. Kinda worn out right now.

Here is a date to remember. April 8th.

That is when Microsoft will kill all support for Windows XP, the now old-but-still-perfectly-useable operating system. WinXP won't stop working on that date, but there will be no more security patches or any additional updates. This will basically make WinXP a target for malware and other nasty stuff.

The best option now is to upgrade to at least Windows 7 if your computer can run it, but if not, you can always run Ubuntu or another user-friendly Linux OS.


You know what the better option would be though? Extend WinXP for another two years. When Win98 was about to be retired back in 2004, they found out that a quarter of the worlds PC users were still running Win98, and thus, they extended the cutoff date to July 2006. I read that around 30% of the worlds PC users today still run XP. If that is true, it shouldn't hurt to support XP for two measly years.

Many people can't afford to upgrade their computers as Windows 7 and 8 require rather powerful systems that said XP users may not even have. They are forced to stick with XP if they need Windows-only software. Linux is a good alternative for older systems, sure, but even with user-friendly brands like Ubuntu, problems can still arise and you also have to learn about Unity and the different UI elements that Linux can force on to a new user.

What it boils down to is money. MS just wants to force people to upgrade so they can line their own pockets. Windows XP is over 10 years old, so yes, it is a very old operating system, but MS needs to wait until the install base gets below 10% before considering cutting off all updates and support. Most of the time people will need to buy an all new PC just to stay current. A Windows XP system from 2001 - 2005 may not run Windows 7 without massive upgrades... and in some cases, not at all.

It's not just MS either... Apple is guilty of the same thing, but made worse with their yearly Mac OSX upgrades and planned obsolescence of their iOS devices.
