To be honest? I'm sticking to 7, and will jump ship to Linux and ReactOS as required.
Well, I decided to play some Blasterball 2 with Greta, and...

The once smooth framerate now sucks. Smooth under Windows 7... not so under 8. Sad Worse still, if I want to play Chuzzle with her GeForce 610m, the game freezes during loading.

I actually never tried playing these games until now, and if I did when I installed Win8, I would have reinstalled 7 then and there. It's a good thing I kept the recovery partition intact.

I guess this means Greta is going back to Windows 7, and I will have to endure all the updates that come after it, but in the end it will bring performance back to my games. After it's all done, I will indeed have a spare copy of Windows 8.1, and I will keep that around in case I ever need it for something, such as if I end up getting a spare laptop that needs restoration.

I start backup now... before bed. I finish tomorrow. Wish me luck.
Okay... Windows 7 restored. All updates installed.

I'm now in the process of transferring over my document backup from the portable HDD. I'm also updating things like Flash and Adobe Reader and installing my favorite software.

Next up... customization, and Greta is finished with her downgrade.
Actually, I see it as an upgrade. My beef with Windows 8 is it's region locking of games and media due to reliance on XBOX Games and Zune. Windows 7 doesn't have XBOX Games and Zune, and hence no region locking. No region locking beats any region locking hands down.

If Xbox exclusives could be released on Steam or even WildTangent, Windows 8 probably wouldn't be so harsh on region coding. But, Steam and Xbox are competitors. :/

Games are running just fine now with the framerate being as smooth as it should for casual games. It seems Adobe Flash runs better too. I guess Greta really was happier with Windows 7 by the looks of it.

Audrey shall keep Win8 since I plan on only using her for media creation and music here on out. I'm also thinking of using my spare of Win8 to test out Boot Camp with Lilly once I get my KVM all set up. I want to grab one of those free Adobe CS2 programs and do a performance test. Lilly has a Core i5-2415M Dual Core while Audrey has an AMD A6-5200 Quad Core APU. Lilly is a mid-range CPU while Audrey is entry level. Audrey can run my Adobe CS2 programs fine and with little slowdown, but I think that rendering times in Premiere may be a tad faster under an i5-2415M with 8gb RAM.

Looks like Fox So-Called News is blacked out on my Dish. Yay?

Nay. They temporarily replaced it with Glenn Beck's "The Blaze". :/ Figures.

I'm also sure Fox So-Called News will be back as well. There is nothing like a "news" network that brings American Patriotism up to eleven and is the catalyst of many Internet flame wars.
Feeling like a bighugeangry fireball today due to the fact that I would be on holiday instead of at work right now if it wasn't for some stupidities. That, and a broken parking meter ate three dollars off me this morning.

Please try to avoid pissing me off in any way, thanks.
and I just found out that i'll be working unpaid overtime today...
There's nothing like attempting to install a moderately recent (circa mid-2000s) game off a CD-ROM featuring an auto-play EXE so poorly written that you have to run it as Admin AND under Windows NT 4.0 SP5 compatibility mode to get the auto-play EXE to run at all under Windows 7.

The game (a cool breakout clone called Ricochet Extreme and Ricochet Lost Worlds) install and run great. Smile
7:30 PM: both server migrated to Windows Server 2008 r2. First server has had service pack 1 and all enterprise level security software installed, and is complete for all intents and purposes. Second server is installing service pack 1 now.
