I succeeded in bringing about 75% of my massive VHS collection, consisting entirely of things recorded off TV. Some I recorded myself in the mid to late 2000s, others were from thrift stores or yard sales for the purpose of harvesting old TV commercial blocks or promotional materials. I didn't have time to locate the old Polaroid tablet, while I left the Bright Tab behind.

I also found both of my cheapo part-15 FM transmitters, for the purpose of sending the audio from my satellite radio receiver to my FM radios around my apartment. It's powered either by AAA batteries or USB, and I had a spare wall adapter laying around.
That's 'swell... Let me know if you've found any interesting retro commercials and such too.

And I've been thinking about a major YTP project some time, but idk where to start. I wanted to mock the 1982 Annie movie and a few others for one, but there's also a couple other sources worth considering.

Looks like Windows 10 is having more bugs, this time with Edge. It has hit me, unfortunately. You can only browse web pages for around 30 seconds or so and Edge will no longer load any web pages at all. Maybe the forthcoming cumulative update will fix it?

Currently using Chrome at the moment.

I am debating on getting the 1809 update atm, but that won't be until the bugs have been largely fixed.
Currently testing a long form recording of live TV, specifically NBC's holiday programming tonight.

It's in SD and the final encoding will involve cropping the letterboxed pictures into a 720p MP4. It's gonna be blurry, but it's the best I can do. Maybe if I search on eBay and find some sort of component game capture device. My cable box does have component outputs which would theoretically eliminate DRM restrictions.

Are Elgato capture boxes worth the buy? Afaik some of them do have provisions for both composite and component sources.

In other news, I traded my old HP laptop to my mum who pledged to buy a replacement. My beef with the HP 14-cm0072au is that the F-row is by default fn-locked, i.e. pressing F3 and F4 raises or lowers brightness amongst others, and I have to hold FN to make them function like what an F1 to F12 key should be. Nothing a BIOS setting can't fix, but still it's an annoyance that could very well be mistaken for a factory defect by a less than savvy user.

Greta is the same way, though given how long I've had her, I have gotten used to it. I also don't really use the FN keys much, but I do use the functions that normally lock out the FN keys, mostly the volume keys.

Oh, and I feel a bit dumb. Turns out I wasn't using the NVENC encoder in XMedia Recode. The program defaults to the software encoder.

I switched to NVENC, and video conversion is now pretty fast.

That's pretty much the reason why I vouched for getting a GTX 750Ti in the first place lol.
I got done trying Ubuntu 18.10 in VirtualBox, but couldn't get hardware accelerated graphics to work.

I thus need to install it to a hard drive, but I'm going to take the safe route and create a dual boot system on Pearl. I'll have to disable Fast Startup in Windows, and install Ubuntu to the secondary 80gb disk inside Pearl.

That way, I can at least keep tabs on Linux to see if anything improves with game compatibility and video capture tools.

Hardware acceleration is indeed an arse at times on VMs, and I've gathered that there isn't a robust GPU acceleration for emulated retro video hardware as well (e.g. 3DFX Voodoo).
In other news, the PS1 Classic has been branded "dead on arrival" due to its mediocre feature set and so-so selection of games. But imho the MediaTek SOC should be its saving grace as it shouldn't be that hard to poke into it, not unless Sony somehow decided to bungle up the preloader and bootloader binaries to prevent unauthorised modding.
