The Spam Thread!
You want to bash apple, don't do it here. This is not the place for it.

Also, my mood isn't very good. I blame lack of sleep.

Is there a rule here saying I can't bash Apple? I don't seem to recall one, AFAIK. This is the "Spam Thread", which clearly states we can talk about anything we want as long as it's at least PG rated. I didn't even bash Apple that much either. I just don't agree with their current direction and will make that opinion heard.

If you don't like that opinion, just don't read any of my posts.
BTW, you may own the domain name, and you may be an admin here, but Blake runs this forum. That's a fact.

Look dudes, with all due respect to you two, but I'm worried you seem to be having some bad blood with each other. Wade meant well with his post, and so do I. Fine, so you are a fan of Apple. I also wanted to have an Apple too, but I can't just praise them without putting criticism into consideration.

Dave, I know you've been through everything especially back when you were young. Imo it's bad to have a deep grudge over things. Tbh I'm just disappointed dude. It's not that I'm mad at you, I just feel sorry for what you've been through, and we all are willing to help you out in your situation.

What I'm trying to do here is point out a hypocrisy. So it's not okay for me to diss people I don't like, but it's okay for you to diss people you don't like? Who wrote this rule, anyway?

Look, I realized I worded my post on that fateful day poorly due to lack of sleep on that night (I worried about the forums and even after firing off a message to Blake, can't sleep properly because my mind was running through all the possible scenarios that could've caused the forums to go under), and the same reason made me extremely cranky at that time. I apologize for that. But you already sold off your Mac Mini. And well, no one's forcing you to buy a new Mac.

Thing is, I'm not allowed to criticize a group of people that cyber-bullied me into a full-level depression-breakdown that lasted a whole year, or a show that went a direction that I don't like because the producers are listening to said group, but you're allowed to criticize a company for which products you no longer own, and I'm expected to let you continue?

Yes, Apple is an idiot for hardwiring the RAM on the newest Mac Minis and low-end iMacs so that it cannot be upgraded, disabling TRIM in third party SSDs, etc. But this is not New. Apple had done things like that in the past. In one 10.5 update, they broke USB Audio support so many third party USB audio devices (ie my SoundBlaster Extigy) won't work without forking out a crazy amount of money for a third party driver- heck, there seems to be a big market for third party drivers on the Mac- touchscreen? US$150. USB sound card? US$40. NTFS support? US$20 (no, Mavericks doesn't even have Read Access support for NTFS, unlike Yosemite and earlier. Heck, I'll still need to shell out US$50 for Thursby Dave to fix the flaky SMB/CIFS support, which is needed to connect to my D-Link NAS). Before this Apple has even messed with the very same AHCI code that they were messing with now so that installing a conventional hard drive will cause all the fans in the Mac to run full force and very loudly.

Just wait for the third party outcry that results. Heck, there's already workaround for the third party drive fan issue, and as I posted, some have already figured out how to fix the SSD issue (hint: it's down to the stupid driver signing thing that can be disabled by putting the Mac into Developer Mode. Doing that gave me back my Rockfire PS2 adapter that stopped working in 10.10, and had I known earlier, will also give me NTFS-3G back, saving me US$20 since I don't have to buy Paragon NTFS. Just wait until Apple makes it so that developer mode cannot be enabled without a USB dongle that they only give out to developers paying US$400 a year- there will be blood.

To be honest, the primary (but not only) reason for my iPad is Spot, and the main reason I have a Mac Mini is for experimentation and now, to allow me a second source of income (you try living in a country where the average wage for sysadmins is US$5.60 a hour, and you have to endure a 9-hour work week. Sometimes I even work until midnight, but the company policy is that they don't give overtime to white collars. I'm fine with that, but not fine with the fact that the price of everything is increasing faster than I can cope with).

But the thing is, if you're allowed to rant about things you don't like but I'm not allowed to, it's not fair, It's hypocrisy. And for you to tell me to go see a psychiatrist, you're not helping but in fact insulting me.

Sorry if this seems to have spiraled into something of a misunderstanding, dude. If it is indeed a case of double-standards on my part, I apologise. It isn't that I don't like Apple, I'm just jaded and worried. And no, it isn't that you're not allowed to vent or get things off your chest either. We're just concerned about some of your posts, especially if it seems to imply something, um, well, you know.

You're a 'swell, well-meaning dude, you've been here through thick and thin, and I still can't help but thank you for saving my skin when my brother tasked me to do a bunch of bingo cards. Smile I, for one, tend to be worried and distraught whenever you vent or say the aforementioned strongly-worded rants, as I couldn't imagine you resorting to something to which I would deeply regret.

Yeah, the kext signing issue is something a little NVRAM command, or in the case of Hackintoshes, a plist entry, can't fix. But for one thing, I think this hard-lined approach Apple is into when it comes to third-party licensing is something of a counter-productive measure. Imo instead of encouraging development and thus attracting new users into the OS X market share, it actually is a turnoff.

Well, Apple's company culture is like that, and have been for years. That's part of the fun for some I guess, making "things that can't happen", happen. Classic hacker manifesto. It's just sad that some idiots like Freeverse Software and even Penguin Books' interactive division will only publish for Mac and/or iOS. Heck, I won't mind buying a second set of the Spot e-books had it been published on Android. Just like how I spent money on Street Fighter 4 on both PS3 and 360, and Final Fantasy VIII on both the PS3 and PC. But until these cogs ad the two above mentioned companies (and several more) open up their minds, I have no choice.

As for my depression, I apologize if I made some people worried. I'm doing my best to manage it.

David, the only issue I have with you, besides your constant depression, is that you fail to accept me for who I am. I like that show that went in a direction you don't like, and I am a fan. But because of how you worded things in the past and how you unfriended me on FB for "defending" their fans, that shows me you are intolerant of my opinion. I have tried many times to turn you in the right direction, but each time ends in failure.

Personally, I never once tried to censor your criticisms of said show. I was merely debating them with my own opposing view in a friendly manner. This happens all the time with politics, food, TV shows... it's a facet of every day life. You hurt my feelings a little when you unfriended me on FB simply because I "defended" those fans when in fact I was just trying to be reasonable. Just because I come charging at you with an opposing view doesn't mean you don't have the right to vent or criticize. I am just debating you and trying to explain my POV. I do this with another friend of mine who follows false Conservative politics because I worry about him. Some of the stuff he follows has been debunked by countless independent people and organizations and he believes it all. But I digress....

If you don't like that show, that's fine. And if I ended up being hypocritical in the past without knowing it, I apologize. But just be aware that simply because I say I like that show, or comparing that fanbase to others, doesn't mean I am "defending" their fanbase. I am actually afraid of talking about certain things here because I constantly worry I will offend you, even when I choose to ignore you.

David, I would like to be friends with you again, I really do. But until you show me that you are willing to accept me for who I am, I don't think our friendship is ready to be reconciled.

Until then, I will carry on the way I have been. I will still think about you though and how me and George got along in the past, and I will continue to get worried when you go into your bouts of depression.

That is all I got.

I know they've been trying to pull off something which, as Monty Python put it, "something completely different", but for some reason it reminds me of how Nintendo treated third-party developers back in the NES and N64 days. Sure, it's business, but Sony tried doing something similar by incorporating proprietary components into their wares, only to end up giving up on it like with Betamax and Memory Stick. Apple simply needs to embrace the fact that the world doesn't center on them, that too much hype and flash but too little substance can backfire on their end, and, as you said it, open their minds even for a bit and try not to impose their will like with the no-SIMs mandate on the iPad Air 2.

It's OK dude, I know you meant well. I'm sorry if the psychiatrist suggestion ticked you off, but we didn't mention it in bad faith, nor are we treating you like a total headcase or anything. Wade never meant to tick you off or hold a bad grudge at you either. He simply wanted to set things straight and help you out with things. As he mentioned above he's just afraid of confronting or opening up on you in fear of offending your feelings or sentiments, even if he never meant to. Think about it - at least we're trying to be civil and cool here. If we resorted to ad hominems or basically troll the living daylights out of each other this issue wouldn't definitely be resolved. We're not that type of people unlike in 4chan or Dramatica.

I'm fine with you being a brony. I have nothing against it. It just came to a point where it felt like you're rubbing it on me for not liking the show's direction. If that wasn't your intention, I apologize- like I said before, I was cyberbullied by the worst of said fanbase, and shortly after, met someone else who have also been cyberbullied by the same (and apparently I got off easy for not liking Chrysalis and just being called horrible names. She actually received death threats via forum PM and e-mail for just liking G3). Hence my conclusion of said fanbase's behavior.

That's fine. You can always voice it out when you're ready. I'm open to reconciling.
