RAMChYLD Wrote:CD-RW drive on Cleo died. So I decided to get funny and throw in Dongwa's DVD-RAM drive.

Not only I can boot from the drive, I just found out that Toast 5.2.3 (which I've been using to write CDs on Cleo) can also handle DVDs >.>

This must've been unrealized potential for Cleo. Now, if only I can use the Apple DVD player...

I've shuffled the LG I had in Maxwell into Dongwa, since I never burn discs on Maxwell anyway, the drive so far has only been used to boot Linux DVDs for diagnostic purposes.
How old was Cleo's CD-RW drive before it started dying? I once had a Sony CD-RW drive in old Daffodil and while it was dying, it could still read discs but it wouldn't write discs properly.

Perfect... I purchased a swell Wireless Keyboard/Mouse for Audrey from the mid-2000s. Brand new in box and Windows 8.1 loaded all the drivers needed, which was great since the driver disk is useless under Windows 8.1. The wireless receiver even uses her PS/2 ports.

Unfortunately, the wireless transmitter in the keyboard isn't working right. I can pair the mouse with the receiver and it works fine, but I am unable to do the same with the keyboard even after I follow all directions and ensuring all devices are operating on the same channel, of which there are two. Setting involves pressing a button on the receiver, and then pressing an "ID" button on both keyboard and mouse. Keyboard refuses to pair no matter how many times I press the button. Tried the other wireless channel and even tried different batteries to no avail.

I tested the set with Jasper, and I get the same result.

Looks like if the computer store is open tomorrow, I shall exchange it since the store had another set. Hopefully, that one will work. If it doesn't, I will get a refund and purchase one from RadioShack.

RAMChYLD Wrote:Whatever works for you I guess. Optimally I wouldn't use a laptop for gaming, but I am only because my working hours are pretty unstable nowadays- I've stayed back to 8PM on several occasions now, worked to midnight on two days, and on one occasion, even went in to work on a public holiday once.

But yeah. I've just upgraded Dongwa to a six-core machine. I upgraded Edison to six-core earlier this year. Now I intend to upgrade Sally to a four-core first-gen Phenom CPU (unlike Edison and Dongwa, Sally's motherboard is designed for the Phenom-I since she uses DDR-2 RAM).

Quick, try running GTA V or Watch Dogs on Ed or Dongwa. Tongue

Make R* support Steambox Tongue

Shouldn't be that hard, the PS4 version should be trivial to port to Steambox.

It seems that you missed my question about Cleo's old CD-RW drive earlier, David. I don't intend on sounding rude by asking. Smile

Outside of that, one more hour (50 minutes rather) til 2015 arrives here where I live. It's already 2015 on the East Coast and the rest of the world.

I bought the drive in 2003 for Helen and transferred it over to Cleo in 2005. iirc. so it's almost a decade old.

Wow. I think I got my LG DVD-RW burner either in 2006 or 2007. It's inside Jasper at present and at last check it still worked.

And, 2015 has arrived here where I live. Happy New Year everyone!

I have one such Sony drive. I gave up on it because it won't burn properly.
