Well, I did it. I beat Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but didn't get the best endings thanks to me not getting all the emeralds. I got four of the emeralds playing as Sonic+Tails, and I got five emeralds plus one Super Emerald as Knuckles.

I could start playing as Tails, but I will take a break from Sonic for a while. Next time, I shall play through Sonic 2 locked on to S&K. And perhaps later this year, play through Sonic 2 and 3&K as Tails only.

How about playing through S3&K as Knuckles? According to what I understand, playing as Knuckles is a little different in S3&K because you're actually playing a semi-sequel.

I did. Smile I mentioned that above. It was the second run with me getting the five Chaos Emeralds and one Super Emerald. I liked how several of the boss battles and level designs were very different from Sonic's run.

After my Sonic quest, I decided to take on the cheap movie licensed game Universal Soldier... which is just a very minor sprite hack of Turrican 2 for the Sega Genesis. Fun game but the ending could have been way better. I really need to acquire Mega Turrican and the first Turrican game as well.

Also applied the latest Kubuntu updates to Audrey and got DVD playback all set up. Media PC ready to go, and I intend on keeping it this way.

Well at least US2 wasn't all that bad for a tie-in, just as what Vin Diesel set out when he produced a video game based on the Riddick universe. He didn't want the title he starred on to pale and be considered as another run-of-the-mill movie game, so he had it polished as much as possible, taking inspiration from various games and mash them all up to a solid action game.

The problem with movie games, and conversely, games based on movies is that studios seem to think of it as a "brilliant idea" when it isn't necessarily so. Plus they rush production of it to meet deadlines, hence why it often ends up being half-baked if not a complete dud.

And that's why there's a trope dedicated to that on TVTropes: The Problem With Licensed Games

That is such good reading BTW. It proves that most movie licensed games are as Blake described, and usually lists the problems with said games. There are exceptions though such as The Lion King. Fun game but also insanely hard at certain points, especially level 2. Same goes for several movie/TV licensed games produced by big companies like Capcom or Konami. Others can be playable but in the end are considered shovelware, such as Universal Soldier. Save for three added levels and a Dolph Lundgren like boss, it has little relation to the film.

Most would be an interactive rendition of the film's plot, while others would be a prequel, sequel or a companion narrative to the main film; either way may or may not work out depending on the developer.

Here is a Greenpeace-level "environmental" project being carried out not by Greenpeace, but by a group of people in Canada.... send all your old video tape cassettes to them to be destroyed because they are apparently a serious pollution threat.

Yes, VHS tapes have a lot of plastic in them, but they also contain lots of history and TV programming not on the air anymore. Lots of valuable material, soon to be destroyed in the name of cleaning the planet.
