Domain name transfer in progress! Edit: completed!
#1
As our domain expiry moves near, I have initiated a renew+transfer from the evil Pro-SOPA GoDaddy to Anti-SOPA NameCheap. Please be assured that nothing will be lost- this transfer is just like when we moved from strawberryforum.cx.cc to strawberryforum.org last year, except that this time, the address remains the same- no adjustment is needed from our users' end.

The transfer has started and will take up quite a few days in July to complete. However, During this time, downtime may occur. Do not be alarmed- the forum is safe and will remain in normal operation aside from the intermittent downtime. However, as a backup, remember that we have a backup announce/mailing list system at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sscdrom . Any concerns during forum downtime can be brought up there, and I strongly urge any member who has not yet sign up for the system to join.

I should also note that this new registrar is a bit more expensive- US$10.49 instead of US$9.99 - but it will be worth it and I will still be donating for it out of my pocket - in other words, you pay nothing for the domain. Put the money into good use instead- i.e., fund Kiwi and help out with our rent for the VPS Smile

And another thing: anyone who's willing to donate for the site's hosting fees, which are a separate payment, feel free to PM me.

Well, we had a few minor hiccups (when did I lock the domain?) but now transfer is hopefully underway and should be complete within 5-6 days...

Transfer is complete. I repeat, transfer is complete. Domain name hosting is now with NameCheap. All DNS settings (ns1/2.slickweb.net) migrated over flawlessly. There should be absolutely zero downtime guaranteed from here on, though it's possible that the site may still blink out for a few moments with some ISP-owned DNS servers, particularly if the country has Internet censorship on the DNS end. GoogleDNS and OpenDNS users should be fine.

Rest assured that any outage will be very short term and temporary, and again, nothing is lost and nothing will be lost.

Oh, and another thing: speaking of GoDaddy, avoid that POS like the plague - no matter how hard I tried contacting them for an abuse report, they were next to bloody useless at having a domain being used for rogue applications taken down. Even if I pester them with emails and CS calls they did absolutely nothing. At all.

That's why I'm tired of them. As long as they're being paid by the party, that paying party would be in the right and you're in the wrong. Only thing that'll make the paying party wrong is if the feds come knocking at their door, at which they change into starscreams and shut down a site without questioning authority.

In fact, am I wrong to believe that they'll be paid "compensation" by the RIAssA and MPAssA (read; daylight bribery) for shutting down accounts accused of hosting "copyright infringing" materials?

Both GoDaddy and the two imbecillic agencies should be disbanded and shut down if they don't want to end up being "taken care of" by Agent 47.
