The Spam Thread!
I am amazed at the battery life of Greta's mini speaker. The box claims 5-hours on a full charge. I'm getting well over 10. Battery is a BL-5C 1000mAH. It probably helps that I never have the speaker's built in disco lights on.

Still sounding great and working well, though I had to use a bit of Krazy Glue to re-attach the plastic bezel surrounding the controls and display, since the factory adhesive wasn't sticking well. Expected for a $15 USD off-brand speaker, but it doesn't affect performance otherwise.

Oh, wow. Even though Angel was the winner, I feel happy. I guess I'm feeling happy for her.

I didn't know about this contest, or the fact that she won. Congratulations to Angel! Smile I shall congratulate her personally on Facebook later as well.

Well, Lilly now has Windows 8.1 via the magic that is Boot Camp. It was rather easy to set up too.

Now, it's time to run all the Windows Updates, though there shouldn't be too many since there isn't such a huge backlog of updates. Windows is taking it's merry old time to check however.

Well, Windows 8.1 testing is underway. I went ahead and got one of those free copies of Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 from Adobe as well as installing my typical DVD ripping/encoding software.

Transcoding a VOB to DivX AVI is much fater than Greta. I'm getting above 180fps during conversion. Greta only gets around 120 - 130 FPS.

[strike]Premiere is a much different story. I started rendering a simple video clip (a Nostalgia Critic music sketch using a simple reverse effect for the entire clip), configured Media Encoder to the same specs I use with Audrey (WMV 24fps 856x480 at 1mbps), and...

Audrey got done with rendering the video first. Lilly is still rendering the video as I type.

Odd, since Audrey is an entry level processor, but she is quad core while Lilly is dual core. Even so, I thought the speed difference of Lilly's i5-2415m would make up for the core loss. It did with the DVD to AVI transfer, but not with Premiere.[/strike]

EDIT: My testing went wrong. Somehow Audrey ended up just encoding the source video into a lower quality format and didn't process the reverse effect. I have started the test again.

Alright, that's more like it.

Lilly is rendering the video faster than Audrey and this time I made sure Audrey was processing the reverse filter.

I'm wondering if Lilly could be my new video system. If that happens, what will become of Audrey besides possibly converting her to a Linux experimentation box?

EDIT: Rendering of the clip under Lilly took about 15 minutes with two pass encoding. When Lilly got done, Audrey hasn't even completed the first pass of encoding.

The source clip is only about four minutes long BTW.

I am thorougly impressed at how Lilly blazes through video rendering and encoding. I fully expected this since Lilly's CPU is a good step above Audrey. Lilly's 8GB of RAM certainly does help as well.

So, now that I know how Lilly handles Windows, I must think about her and Audrey's future. I could turn Lilly into the main media creation PC with OSX and Windows on one small system, while Audrey could either be my third attempt at a media center PC, or turned into a Linux box.

Then again, I don't really need to have blazing fast video rendering. Audrey might be slow at video rendering, but she does excel at audio encoding with Adobe Audition. Lilly would even be faster at Audition processing, but as with video, I am patient and I don't need fast rendering at this point in time.

I shall sleep on this and make up my mind by Friday.
