The Spam Thread!
Got you covered. Smile I only have time to get these two tonight, but more will come tomorrow after I get everything finalized.

The iMac came with High Sierra pre-installed, but I've decided to take it back down to Mountain Lion. High Sierra is fine, but with this iMac's specific use situation, I don't really need that. Right now, ML is running off a USB hard drive at the moment to make sure the downgrade will work out. ML works wonderfully with 4GB RAM, QuickTime records video off the HDMI capture dongle just fine, and I can still use the older iMovie '11 to create my commercial compilations. The newer versions are more feature limited to cater at casual techies, at the expense of us advanced users of course.

I don't think this 2011 series iMac is affected by the infamous Radeon GPU failure issues. This iMac has the Radeon 6750M, while the 27'' models had the 6970Ms, which were the ones prone to failure. I won't do much other than video editing with this iMac, and the encoding, I believe, happens with Intel QuickSync and not the GPU. I could be wrong though. Either way, the HD video capture works well.

No hard disk surprise. I only got the 500GB hard drive as it was advertised. I was hoping I would wind up with a surprise 1TB upgrade like with the 24'' 2008 iMac I bought from them. Ah well.

And yeah, I like the new theme. Blue is my favorite color, and I think it's much better than the Emerald theme.

So, Stella Grapes, how have you been able to get online in recent years? Last I heard you had a Microsoft Surface tablet or laptop of some kind that gave up the ghost on you. I still remember before the Surface, you had an old MacBook.

I've finally moved over, mostly to Mac, but still have a Windows PC for games. I even got a nice Xbox USB gamepad for it too. I need a wireless keyboard and mouse though.

Turns out my old friend from back in the day is still selling stuff on eBay. I sent him a message there telling him I would like to catch up, but eBay's filtering system is horrible. You can't put anything that resembles an email address into the body or eBay blocks it. Sad Anyway, here's hoping he replies in a good way. I still remember his actual email from back then, but I don't know if it's still active or not.

Wonder if you could make any cryptic references to contact him or have him sell a cheap item with an email address on it so you could contact him better.

I tried, but it's reading my Yahoo username as a potential part of an email address. And the page warned me that repeated attempts to send emails with such information (even if it's false positive) would cause restrictions to be placed on my account. Sad I didn't want to take too many chances with failed attempts.

I took a gander at some online eBay forums and they recently began to get more aggressive with the filtering. It's designed to prevent back-channel email sales outside of eBay, but it ends up censoring legit communications like mine.

To think that YouTube's censorship has incensed a lot of people lately even if the content in question was mentioned or used in a legitimate context, e.g. Hitler parodies and so on.

I've never felt so anxious about an election.

Rather than watch the early results come in, I've decided to calm down with a selection of random Christmas specials. I will check the results later but will try not to dwell on them too much.

Oh yeah, uploading the sample capture video now. DSL takes FOREVER. Sad

When it's up, I'll put it in the Lilly thread as promised.

Rusty is now using my 55'' HDTV, though I had to put the desktop resolution down to 1080p. 4K makes the text far too small. Tongue The display drivers also set the display to 30hz for some reason. Put it back to 60hz, and all is well. Tested gaming with some Pinball FX3 and my PowerA Xbox controller, and it also runs great!

The wireless keyboard and mouse are just a cheapo thing I found at the local computer store.

You could set Windows to display UI elements at a bigger scale which is what I do with my 1080p monitor as 100% scale is too small for my folks and I to view comfortably, even if that afforded bigger screen real estate.

I'm tempted to invest on a mechanical keyboard at times, but couldn't commit myself to doing so as I've gotten more used to the more expendable mushy membrane keys. And mechanical keyboards leave a lot of noise as if I'm two steps away from typing documents on a typewriter instead.
