Anna-Lena II
Birthday is January 27th, 2012

New entertainment center setup with Wendell's old table/stand/whatever. Tongue

HD signal from cable TV. Unlike Max, HD content is not grainy at all.

Here is an SNES game called "Super Earth Defense Force". The graphics actually look rather nice. They are slightly more blockier than on a CRT, but Im sure I can get used to seeing them like this. As for input lag....it's either very low or nonexistent. I was able to pull off the timed attacks in Super Mario RPG without any issues, and I haven't hooked up Elsie to component yet due to not having the required cable.

DVD of "Ready Set Learn". Some motion blur in the picture because of...well...action in the scene, but the picture quality is outstanding. Far better than the first Anna-Lena. 5ms response time too.

Yes. Im very happy with Anna-Lena II. She is much easier to move now as UPS quoted the weight at only 13 pounds! Anna-Lena the first weighs far more, possibly above 30 pounds. I have to cut handles in the sides of the box though since there weren't any pre-cut.

Other things I noticed about Anna-Lena II...

She has full PAL support. Anna Lena the first only had partial support for PAL...a stable picture, but no color. Max has no PAL support at all. The picture is stable, but it's vertically stretched and has no color.

Tested PAL with the cheapo DVD player hooked to the AV input and a Region 2 DVD.

Oh...what does the subject say? Oh yes...Team Chelco! Consider this the Nerf gun to my TV purchase, although I had these in my sight before Anna-Lena II. They didn't cost too much either, though I had to bid on them or else I would have paid a lot more.

It isn't often when you can find brand new electronics from the 1980s, but these are showing up on a certain eBay store. At first glance, I thought they were just newly manufactured retro-style boomboxes that you can also find on eBay, but looking at these up close proves that these aren't reproductions...but unsold stock from the 1980s. The manuals are printed on rather decent paper, and appear to be type set instead of looking like a Word document. The included accessories also indicate age, such as the earphone that came with the shoebox recorder. Brand new, but the cord isn't too flexible, the plastic has yellowed slightly, and it was tied together with a clear plastic ring instead of a twist tie or scotch tape.

Do they work? Yes, they do. The shoebox recorder works fine, but the boombox has some age related issues. The tape player part works, but it outputs to just the left speaker. The right just gives off a hissing noise. The radio works decently, but the FM antenna isn't as sensitive as my Panasonic boombox. The AM radio is rather good though.

Oh, a neat little extra that came with the boombox...

"Demonstration Tape." One side blank, the other side with disco music. The tape is rather well built, further proving the age. Last time I saw, dollar store cassettes had cheap plastic casings. This tape is built like a tank, for the most part.

You mean like a dead stock or something? Which reminds me of that 70s-era Zenith radio I saw on YouTube.

Yeah, like that. I seen that video too. All new Zenith radio from the 1970s...never opened. These are lower quality than the Zenith, but they still beat any of the retro-style boomboxes out there today in terms of build quality. If it weren't for that issue with the tape player in the boombox, it would be rather great!

Quetzal III. Freshly unpacked.

Looking through the manual, I think LG is seriously confused about the product. The manual says that Quetzal III does support System M and NTSC color through it's tuner.

They'd be suicidal if they don't include NTSC support tho- the Sabah east coast relies on NTSC-M to receive Filipino TV aside from PAL-B/G for local TV. Yeah, even they get better programming than those living around KL City. And the Sabahan east coast is mostly made out of fishing villages!

Man, October 2006. How long has it been since I was introduced to SSC? I recall that it was before the movie. That will make it around, 2005 or earlier...

Wow, time sure has passed...

He looks awesome! Now you have full 1080p support for your Xbox 360! Smile

Hmm...in the second photo, I notice that the DiC logo in the bottom right seems to go off the screen though. Zoomed in or is it underscan?

Another HD shot...this time using a 1920x1080 JPEG of an MLP:FIM Screencap. (from "Dragonshy") Originally a PNG, I had to save it as a JPEG at 100% quality. I then put both screencaps on the USB flash drive seen at the bottom right and plugged it into the USB port.

Anna-Lena II supports USB flash drives, and can play MP3 music and display JPEGs. It can't display video file though.

1080p for both Jess and Berlioz. Though, as stated before, I don't really use Berlioz much due to the absence of XBox Live in Malaysia.

As for the DiC logo, I think it's zoomed in, I've still yet to figure out a few of the settings. Or it could be a problem with the way the FMV was encoded in the first place.

It's a source problem, the rip I made of the video years earlier had the same defect >.>

I need to stock up on these next time I get to a Staples...

Taking a closer look at Anna-Lena II, I found a light smudge on the right side as well as a few fingerprints at the top center. The fingerprints were mine as they were a result of me setting up Elsie's sensor bar. The smudge? Not sure where that came from as the set was brand new in the box, complete with screen protector and plastic film protecting the shiny bezel. Factory tester perhaps? (perhaps that was my own making too while taking off the screen protector, and I just forgot)

Anyway, I used this kit to clean them right off. I also decided to clean off Lilly's monitor screen as well.

I found two kits on sale at the Pawn/Surplus store, unused. Each has three sets of moistened wipes and polishing cloths as well a microfiber finishing cloth. I tested one out on Wendell, and it made him look like new! Alcohol free and ammonia free too.
