James has Windows 8 at his work, and I use it there to manage both dual household and family businesses' taxes. Yes, these silly men trust me with basic math. Excel does the adding. I don't have Windows 8. I have Windows XP, used, and it is going to die any day now.

Ben has a Surface tablet, which is cheaper than a laptop. I'm definitely looking into that. What are thoughts? Do you recommend it?

Yes, I know Surfaces are Windows 8.

I am aware of the Surface tablet, but I haven't had a need to buy one myself as Greta, my Windows 7 laptop, serves me well. My tablet is a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 in the 7'' size. It doesn't run Windows, but another system called Android. The tablet's name is Hazel. Smile She serves me well, too, but if you haven't used an Android phone or tablet before, there will be a learning curve and it doesn't have many of the familiar Windows features and shortcuts.

When the time comes to retire Greta, I could try the Surface myself, but I probably would just go for another laptop. By that time, the Surface 5 will likely be out, along with Windows 9... or 10. It's going to be a while before I can try a Surface tablet, and since I haven't, I don't know whether or not to recommend it.

As for Windows XP, it's basically already dead in a "support" sense. Support and security updates are no longer appearing for XP. XP will still work as long as the laptop holds out, and you are careful about the websites you go to. (Im curious as to what brand of XP laptop you are currently using, but I'm always curious about these things. Big Grin)

If not a Surface, what about an iPad? iPads are just slightly more expensive than a Surface, and is a far more affordable Apple option than a brand new MacBook.

Blackberry Bun Wrote:So I've been weirdly having this short memory repeating in my head and I can't make out where it came from. Probably from a game.

Anyway, the only memory that keeps coming back is a sentence, probably from the final boss.

"I am The Alpha and The Omega"

Spoken in a robotic voice in a tone which is raised at the "ga" part of "Omega"

Kinda uneasy to have this keep repeating in my head without remembering where it came from.
Well, it is in the Bible. Revelation 22:13 to be exact. Either it came from a Christian TV network during channel surfing or a game that uses said quote from the Bible... or a variation of it. I would go with the latter.

One more post coming.... and it's about web browsers.... again. Stay tuned.

So, last week, I tried Internet Explorer for a week. It went fine and after my conclusion, I went back to Seamonkey for a few days.

Then I decided to give the new Chrome-based Opera a spin last Wednesday, settling for another week long test.

You can clearly tell what browser will be my first choice now. Smile

I ended up creating these custom speed dial images with Photoshop, each one tailored to my computers' namesakes. I may have to re-make Greta's Speed Dial background, since the text and headshot are a bit too big for her small display size.

Final Opera musings coming tomorrow night.

Searched for a while, didn't find any clue. Probably because the memory came from an indie flash game posted on Newgrounds, Kongregate, or such.

Nearly halfway through the year already. Time flies.

Indeed. It still feels like Christmas was just last month. Tongue

Well, they could've ripped the excerpt from UT99 or something.

Ok, so I tried searching the UT99 taunt you told me about, and I found this video.

The particular line is at 00:14, and indeed it is the line I have been remembering. The tone is perfectly matched.

Yep, and besides the Biblical passage Wade mentioned, the Alpha/Omega quote rang a bell to me, mostly since I played Unreal Tournament before and read some lore about it.

From the discovery, the repeating memory is most likely from something indie which ripped the line from UT for its audio. Unfortunately, indie things are much harder to search so I guess I'll just stop here. Knowing the original source is good enough for me.
