A friend of mine's vouching on ASUS routers. Haven't tried them myself but since he seems to be having a positive experience with it then I'd say it's worth the try.

I can also vouch for Asus routers. Also consider Cisco/Linksys and SMC.

If you have FRITZ!Box routers over there, it's worth considering as well- the linux magazines I read were praising it.

If you're on a budget, AzTech is okay too.

D-Link was a good brand, but they've fallen into the pit of hopelessness lately.

Avoid Netgear.

TP-Link, well, I do trust them more than D-Link nowadays (especially since I have two one-decade-old 10/100TX cards that still work from that company, and I have one router from the company modded to run DD-WRT for experimenting), but since you're having bad luck with them, best to avoid.

PS: For WiFi disappearing, I'm thinking it's caused by WiFi access point saturation (I was having that problem intermittently with a D-Link router as well- until I forced it to use Channel 8). To put simply, there is just too many WiFi routers in your housing estate and they are all transmitting full power (typically, people will set their router to full power just so it has further coverage just so they can use their PSP or tablet or laptop in the garden, but the downside is that it interferes with next door's WiFi). If your laptop and router supports 802.11A/N/AC which is 5GHz, switch the router to use 5GHz instead- this however has the downside to cause devices that cannot support A/N/AC to stop detecting the WiFi, although it also has the upside of increasing the WiFi speed. Alternatively, use a WiFi scanning software to find a channel that is unused, and force your router to use the unused channel. For example, most WiFi routers transmit channel 1, 6 or 11 if they're left to automatically select a channel. If you see that Channel 5 or 8 is open for example, forcing the router to use those nonstandard channels would make it less likely to "disappear" under other people's WiFi. Also, people will tend to avoid Channel 12 and 13- choosing those two channels will cause some devices (usually American devices) to not be able to find the WiFi because in the US, 12 and 13 is restricted. But if you don't use a US device and can use channel 12 and 13, those two tend to be least prone to saturation.

It hijacks HTTP requests randomly and redirects it to a webpage advertising internet security/censorship/antivirus services >.>

Security firms have noted that this have caused some antivirus products to fail to update because requests to the update server was hijacked and said webpage was returned instead of the requested update file.

Uh, I need some help?

Main goal is to just play Ouendan and Ouendan 2, which as many people has attested, has led to horribly scratched up LCDs on their DSes. Which is why even though I own a DS Lite and technically two 3DSes, those games are staying as far away from my consoles as possible, screen protector or not (those who play the games also attest to changing screen protectors very frequently because of the scratches it causes to the protector).

Have you filed a ticket at Desmume's Sourceforge page? Also, would it hurt if you use software rendering?

Well, I've fixed it by disabling OsMesa during compile time, but yeah. My main problem with software rendering is that it's slow and inconsistent- games would suddenly go from too fast to too slow and then back to too fast again. Rhythm games like Ouendan, well, that pretty much renders the game unplayable. Since the music would sound like it is coming from a broken tape recorder and the speed of the circles would be synced to the music, making it impossible to maintain a metronome in my head.

DeSmuMe works fine in the upgraded 6-core Windows rig, Edison, except that for some reason the program will fight with Windows over the touch screen, making the touch screen unusable since touching the screen while DeSmuMe is running causes the mouse cursor to jump all over the place.

Windows is a PITA. Why is it that Microsoft feels it necessary to add all sorts of stupidities for touch functions that it causes the touch screen to cease working in MAME and DeSmuMe??!? The touch interface gums up and goes bonkers when either software (and then some) are running (although the mouse is still capable of functioning properly during that period), but resumes to working properly when they're closed...

On the other hand DeSmuMe doesn't seem to be capable of running fast enough in Linux to be usable.

I guess the two cores really does makes a difference. Maybe I should look into upgrading Dongwa to hex-core as well. That, or consider getting another pair of hard disks, slide them into Edision thanks to the Drive Tray system, and put linux on those. Then it would be like the old consoles where you replace the cartridge to run a different game!

Sorry. I had to. I personally think touch screens are fine on tablets and tablet-laptop convertibles, but on a desktop PC, I don't see the point. You control most things with the mouse anyway, and even if the monitor has multi-touch, you will tire your arm out trying to reach out to the screen to use that feature. Also, you will have fingerprints all over the monitor as well, unless one keeps their hands extremely clean.

As for DeSmuMe... that is a Nintendo DS emulator. Don't you already have a 3DS and a DSi/DSlite console?
I can see DeSmuMe as a way for playing games you can't acquire at all, but there should be markets down there that sell DS game cards for cheap these days.

Play a few games of that (especially if you don't have a screen protector). And tell me if your DS' screen isn't all scratched up after that. Especially the part that required you to draw in circles as fast as you can then slam the middle of the screen at the end of the song. Many DS touch screens were broken due to that according to what I read.

That's why I'm not letting said game near my DS or 3DS, even if I have a screen protector.

As for region locking, I'm not too concerned. DS games and consoles aren't region locked. My concern is due to the game's element that requires you to abuse the touch screen
