Flip the Hub Network logo in reverse, and you can get three things... an unusual first or last name, the acronym for a rail line in Dubai, or a deragatory term for red haired people, if Urban Dictionary is to be believed.

Hub is non offensive Dubai Rail Link.

BTW, Hub Network ended today.

Found a copy of Cakewalk Pro Audio 4.5 today. Also dug up an old file I had not touched since 2005 (it was first created around 2000, but I made my final edit to the file in 2005, and finally lost access to Cakewalk when I had to let go of Windows 98 and decided to rebuild Helen as a MCPC some time in 2007). Because XP can't handle Cakewalk, specifically one component I need to use (the TTS Virtual Piano) is only available as a VxD.

So I asked myself, "RAM, how come you can't create music like this anymore?" and a voice answers "Because you've lost it". How true :/ I can't do anything like this in Rosegarden (although getting Rosegarden to behave itself is a big effort on it's own).

Those things cost a lot AFAIK well since they're professional-grade tools along the lines of 3ds Max. Heard of Cakewalk before being used by several artists, but I haven't poked into it for the lulz yet.

Some of them high-dollar tools require hardware-based copy protection like dongles in the case of Antares Auto-Tune (you know, the same stuff used by so-called "artists" to alter their voice) and early Max versions, though as with all software they eventually get cracked.

Some software is even locked down to certain high-end audio hardware. If that hardware isn't present, the program won't run.

I have heard of Cakewalk and other high-end programs, but for me,I was lucky to get Adobe Audition... as part of an ancient Adobe DVD set that was set to be trashed. Audition doesn't hold a candle to Cakewalk or other professional suites, but hey, it's better than Audacity if you can afford it.

As for auto-tune... thank Cher for using it with "Believe". To Cher's credit, at least she was a real artist trying something never used before. Then it became mainstream.....

Nah, I think Cakewalk's pretty low end compared to the everything else.

That's contrary to what you think, at least with SONAR. Pro Tools is just as complex, if not more complex. I've heard of it being used by big-name record studios e.g. in Ricky Martin's songs for one.

For those who don't know already, the Hub TV channel ended yesterday. It was a TV network that showed cartoons based on popular toy franchises as well as typical family shows and movies.

It's replacement is Discovery Family. Daytime is largely the same toy-themed programs, while the evening becomes a reincarnation of the old Discovery Channel or TLC. The classic sitcoms have been replaced with animal and science documentaries and shows, and sometimes, reality show repeats, all from Discovery's library.

I'm fine with the change, though many others aren't.
