Mafia III officially announced, full reveal on Gamescom 2015
Posted by: huckleberrypie - 07-28-2015, 08:38 PM - Forum: Computers, Games & Tech - No Replies

Title says all, but this time it ain't from some low-rent clickbait site:

2K Games confirmed this morning on Twitter, promising a fuller reveal of the game on Aug. 5.

Gamescom begins in Cologne, Germany on Aug. 5.

Mafia 2 published in August 2010, seven years after eight years after the original Mafia. There had been rumblings of a third Mafia in the five years since the sequel, most recently in January when voice actor Rick Pasqualone hinted over Twitter that "exciting news" was coming soon.

Mafia 2 was developed by the 2K Czech studio, which closed its Prague office in a major restructuring at the beginning of last year. 2K Czech's last game was the tennis title Top Spin 4, published by 2K Sports in 2011.

Going away for a bit again
Posted by: RAMChYLD - 07-15-2015, 12:30 PM - Forum: Front Door - Replies (6)

Well, apparently, my attempt at hiding my hurt has caused another commotion.

I've came to decide that I need some time out. So I will be away from the forum again, maybe a week, maybe a month, I don't know. Right now all I know is that I'm actually feeling very confused (I found a song, that when listened to on repeat, makes me feel apathetic about everything. But apparently I'm pissing people off left and right when I make a post about topics that bother me while listening to the song). I think I need time to readjust.

So until then, this will be my last post to the forums. And in case I sound apathetic again, yes, I'm listening to the song on repeat while typing this- I think it's a better option than typing this while crying.

RAM out.

Iconix Brands to acquire SSC from American Greetings

Besides acquiring the rights to the sneaker brand Pony, it looks like the ones currently holding the IP rights to Snoopy is set to buy Strawberry Shortcake, too:

Quote:Snoopy and Charlie Brown are getting a new corporate buddy.

Iconix, the brand licensing company that owns the "Peanuts" gang of characters, said Tuesday that it is buying the rights to cartoon character Strawberry Shortcake for $105 million. It will buy the pink-haired character from greeting card company American Greetings.

The New York company hopes to breathe new life into the 35-year-old brand with possible clothing, toy and TV show or movie deals. The deal is expected to close within 45 days.

Strawberry Shortcake, who has freckles on her face and wears a strawberry-shaped hat, first showed up on greeting cards in 1980. Since then she has been made into a doll and has been featured on products as varied as pajamas, cosmetics and food. Cleveland-based American Greetings tried to sell the brand several years ago, but the deal fell through. American Greetings, which sells cards and wrapping paper, also owns the Care Bears and Holly Hobbie characters.

Strawberry Shortcake has more than 350 licensing deals around the world, Iconix said. The character "resonates across multiple generations from daughters to mothers to grandmothers," said Leigh Anne Brodsky, a managing director of Iconix's entertainment unit.

"We see many opportunities to grow this brand worldwide," she said in a statement.

Iconix Brand Group Inc. mostly owns and licenses clothing brands such as Joe Boxer, London Fog, Badgley Mischka and Candie's. It first entered the entertainment industry in 2010, when it bought the rights to the Peanuts characters from newspaper publisher E.W. Scripps Co. for $175 million. An animated film, "The Peanuts Movie," will be released by 20th Century Fox later this year.

In a separate purchase, Iconix said Tuesday that it bought the North American rights to athletic brand Pony for $37 million from Chinese investment holding company Symphony Holdings Ltd.

Shares of Iconix rose $1.20, or 3.6 percent, to $34.91 in afternoon trading Tuesday.

Could this mean yet another reboot of the franchise? Or the real question is, will this bode well to us SSC fans?

  UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME
Posted by: Angel - 01-11-2015, 07:29 PM - Forum: Computers, Games & Tech - Replies (26)

Yeah. Having a computer problem and I'm hoping some of you can help, either from some experience or perhaps you guys have better Google Fu then me.

I forgot to shut down my computer the night before and woke up with it still running. I noticed it was running slow and attempted to restart it, only to have it crash on me. Since then it has been booting up with a UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME error. We've tried to run System Restores with the Windows Installation Disk but every time we do so it simply hangs after selecting "repair your computer" doing.. outright trying to reinstall Windows simply causes it to freeze.

Normally most of what I've been reading would lead that to being a bad harddrive, except when I run the cmd prompt chkdsk it recongizes the harddrive, runs through all the checks, recognizes all the space and such, the harddrive light in the computer still comes on.. and comes up with 0 bad sectors. For all I can tell the harddrive seems to be fine. So we're a bit stumped as to what to do now. (I admit it would be nice if the harddrive wasn't broken, as we aren't made of money at the moment.)

almost all of this was done by Alexia who knows how to handle this, so I might have inaccurately explained something. I believe I said it mostly correct though.

Looks like this year, Honda is using old 80s toys to push Holiday car sales. And they managed to get the OK to use 80s SSC for one.

It's.... um.... well...

take a look. :|

  Strawberry Shortcake Playing Cards??
Posted by: cpd2009 - 09-02-2014, 07:52 AM - Forum: Other Strawberry Shortcake Merchandise - Replies (3)

After playing a certain token game at the Labor Day Carnival, I discovered SSC playing cards exist.

First off, the box looks swell with the simple strawberry pattern. It all looks fine and dandy, doesn't it?

Oh....

The "mark of quality" so to speak. In other words, this isn't an officially licensed SSC product. This is on par with those bootleg action figures I find at Indian Pow-Wows. Carnival's and fairs with games tend to stock things like this. Other playing card decks I saw were ones with Mickey Mouse and one with the confederate flag.

What does the deck actually look like? This..

The Joker confuses me. SSC herself is a very friendly character, so how did she qualify to become the Joker? Also take note the quality of the SSC image on the card is very poor and blurry, along with the Engrish-ish "PLAYING CARD" above her.

I really though this was an officially licensed product given the back alone. If it was official, there would obviously be an American Greetings copyright somewhere on the back, which is nonexistent here. I guess I don't pay attention to these things.

In the end, I am keeping the boxed playing card set wrapped in plastic, while I'll open up the loose deck. If any of the non-Joker cards have stolen SSC imagery, I will post them here.

  Forums compromised, still pending investigation.
Posted by: huckleberrypie - 08-07-2014, 02:26 PM - Forum: Announcements - No Replies

Quoted from Dave:

Quote:Update: As of 2 PM today, the forums are finally back up. Blake will be obtaining a log of the spam sent through the site from Chris for analysis, hopefully we can trace the perp and turn him/her into law enforcement from the data in the logs. For now, the forum is back to usable state.

We apologize for the downtime.

Chris hinted at a possible XSS hack on the site, and while Dave raised doubts about it, I'm not ruling out the possibility given how bug-laden PHPBB is. I'll see if I can harden the site, and hope we could move this off Chris's server as he really wants to streamline his site to just host The GTA Place and his other ventures.

UPDATE: I've just updated Mediawiki to the latest build. Let's see if this would plug things up.

Posted by: huckleberrypie - 06-10-2014, 02:02 PM - Forum: Computers, Games & Tech - Replies (6)

Looks like we can rest easy with the PC version, then. They've been developing the PC and eighth-gen ports all along since it was first released, but it took more than half a year of speculation before they decided to go for the big reveal:

Quote:Grand Theft Auto V will take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation®4, Xbox One and PC with across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail. Increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions all work together to bring new life to the cities, towns, deserts and oceans of Rockstar North’s epic reimagining of Southern California.

All new content and gameplay created since the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online, including an extensive array of new Jobs, an arsenal of new weapons, scores of new vehicles, new properties and player customizations will also be available for the PlayStation®4 system, Xbox One and PC with much more to come. In addition, the current community of players will have the ability to transfer their Grand Theft Auto Online characters and progression to their choice of PlayStation®4, Xbox One or PC.

Grand Theft Auto V for PC will also feature a video editor designed for advanced movie-making.
