Forum Chat?
#1
Would you be interested in a chat system set up for the forum? Would you join it frequently?
Particularly, I'm thinking of a dedicated IRC server. I don't know whether you're familiar with IRC clients.

I'm just wondering. Maybe it would be fun to meet on chat to talk to each other more directly and loosely.

The main problem is that most of us don't get online at the same time due to different time zone. It's feasible if we have a lot more amount of members, but that is not the case for us here.

I think we can have a forum chat, but I'd prefer it if the backend is IRC-based, since most smartphone has IRC clients for it.

If someone who knows how to install a chat wants to do so, that sounds like fun to me! There will some time be times when we're online together!

I guess we could try it. Of course it will be IRC-based. I'll configure an IRC server, or maybe I'll just reuse the one I set up for an other forum, which didn't need it after all. I'll make it when I feel like to, supposedly within a week.

Again, is everyone familiar with IRC clients here? If not, it can be helped, but it would still cause some difficulties.

Well, I am somewhat familiar with IRC clients. Which client would you be reckoning? I've scripted for mIRC and XChat in the past.

Personally, I use mIRC at home and Irssi at work (cause that's quite SFW because of it's terminal interface). But you might have other preferences, so I wouldn't know.

I think I know what you're talking about. Can you show me a sample, just to be sure?

I might put a web IRC frontend especially for those who aren't really that familiar with it.

Well, I just did a search and found lightIRC. Figure it's probably the best option outside of Java (though, it won't work on iDevices and droids, but then there are dedicated IRC clients for iOS and Android). It also requires that the IRC server hosts a Flash policy server, which I reckon won't be a problem if we own the server.
