Personally, I use mIRC at home and Irssi at work (cause that's quite SFW because of its terminal interface). But you might have other preferences, so I wouldn't know.

Well, personally, I'm pretty much all for XChat, since it's cross-platform.

WOW, I just see I've re-quoted my own message by mistake... I wanted to edit it, because of the grammatical error (I wrote "it's" instead of "its"). Nah, I'll just delete it.

EDIT: No, because I can only delete my latest message. Oops!

Test instance has been set up. Smile

Code:
Server:         irc.strawberryland.eu
Ports:          6659,6667,6670
Interfaces:     IPv4,IPv6
Channel:        #strawberryland
Everyone is welcome to have a try!

For those who don't know how to use IRC, educational material comes later, though only if it's really needed. So please tell me, if you don't know how to join!

Testing the server now. Laggy, but it could be the fact that I'm using a cellular connection that's being throttled at 1Mbps (the effective connection of HSUPA is 7.8Mbps), plus I have tons of other internet apps running.

I don't know how to log on. I thought I could go to searchirc.com or mibbit.com and search for "strawberryland". That didn't work. Is there a way you can make that possible, or am I just ignorant?

Try either of these:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://mibbit.com/?channel=%23strawberryland&server=irc.mibbit.net">http://mibbit.com/?channel=%23strawberr ... mibbit.net</a><!-- m -->
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="irc://irc.mibbit.net/strawberryland">irc://irc.mibbit.net/strawberryland</a><!-- m -->

They work! Thank you!

No.

the correct link is: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://cbe002.chat.mibbit.com/?channel=%23strawberryland&server=irc.strawberryland.eu">http://cbe002.chat.mibbit.com/?channel= ... rryland.eu</a><!-- m -->

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="irc://irc.mibbit.net/strawberryland">irc://irc.mibbit.net/strawberryland</a><!-- m -->
The problem with these is that they take you to Mibbit's IRC servers, while we have an own separate server.

The Mibbit link is:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://mibbit.com/?server=irc.strawberryland.eu&channel=%23strawberryland">http://mibbit.com/?server=irc.strawberr ... wberryland</a><!-- m -->

The generic IRC link is:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="irc://irc.strawberryland.eu/strawberryland">irc://irc.strawberryland.eu/strawberryland</a><!-- m -->

Try the latest one first, because using your own IRC client is the preferred way. Many people actually have IRC clients on their machines even without knowing about it. (For example, many people use Pidgin or Miranda IM to chat on their multiple accounts, while they don't know that these clients are also able to connect to IRC.) The benefit of the irc:// link is that it allows you to open the chat with one of your installed IRC clients. If you don't have an IRC client, then Firefox will offer you to connect through Mibbit. If it doesn't work, then use the Mibbit link above.

Personally, I really don't like Mibbit. I'm rather willing to install a web-chat client (e.g CGI:IRC), just to avoid the Mibbit usage. Though it's OK now, as we don't have other options for those without IRC clients yet. (Hmm... though I've just tried Mibbit again, and now it looks better - previously I hated it because it was too much of dumbed down, like it didn't create a separate status window. Now it does create one.)
