The Spam Thread!
On second thought, back on the fence.

The Switch may be the 3DS' end if can keep up sales leads. Not to mention that only a handful of games require the "New" 3DS, some looking like they could run just fine on all models.

I can never make up my mind on things. Tongue

I feel you mate. Some of them decisions can be rather, um, hard. Like whether to get an LG K10 or an Asus Zenfone Go - the former lacks OTG but has an octa-core CPU, while the latter is stuck on Lollipop but has OTG.

And why do I feel like making a crappy Mario Kart/Hercule Poirot crossover parody? Tongue

Well, the forum will undergo a transition soon.

I did make up my mind on the whole 3DS kerfuffle, and I sprung for a "New" 3DS Galaxy Style last weekend.

I would post a review, but I will wait until the forums get settled into the new server.

I will say this... it makes my old 3DS seem like crap. The performance boost is amazing.

Also... it's name is Frisky, the fox in my avatar. Figures. Tongue

There, hope the new server works well for our needs, at least for the time being that is.

That's good to hear. Smile

I will proceed with my "New" 3DS review then over in the Computer subforum.

Sure thing mate, I'm looking forward to it. Wink

Glad I got practically everything on the server to work as it should. It was definitely a pain in the rear to set up compared to a shared host with all the toys and stuff waiting for you; an unmanaged VPS on the other hand is barebones and needs tons of work for it to be fully functional.

Lately, I have been going back and forth between two different games.

Earthbound on New 3DS.
Not done yet, but I decided to take a break from it for now. It's a very fun RPG, and the only serious RPG I have been hooked on since Super Mario RPG.

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on SNES.
About halfway through this game, though I end up having to use a guide since some of the passages and items are well hidden, as well as doing some random task that gamers wouldn't think about doing unless by accident. I try not to use guides, but sometimes I have to.

Recently, May 7th came and went, marking Greta's (my laptop) 5th birthday, so to speak.

She still performs rather well for her age when she is on her stock OS, Windows 7. However, her performance has gone downhill thanks to the Win10 upgrade (it was direct from Win7, not a clean install) and I do not have a free license key to use. I doubt her own Win7 key would work with digital entitlement.

I decided to use my unused Windows 8.1 license and replace Win10. I don't use Greta as much as I used to, mostly for the sake of having a functional PC while on my occasional road trips. Win8.1 will fit the bill nicely. By the time 2023 comes around, she may be near her end of life and I would probably have upgraded to a better laptop by then.

I'm also going to give my mom's HP all-in-one PC a complete refresh this weekend. It needs it. It got a direct Win10 upgrade from Win8, and it has also slowed down greatly. Though that computer's CPU wasn't really good to begin with (it's an AMD E1-1200), I suspect that once a clean, bloat-free reinstall is done, it will perform better. My mom doesn't use that PC for much outside of checking email, online shopping, or using Microsoft Office. I was contemplating building a new PC for her like my own, but she likes the form factors of AIO PCs. If she ever needs a new one, I would just get her a better AIO with an Intel Core i3 CPU.

Adventures in PC maintenance, part: of many...

Win8.1 is installed on Greta, but it seems to have issues with Windows Updates, maybe. It just sits at "Checking for Updates" and causes 50% CPU usage. It also prevented updating Windows Store apps, which I am finally able to do after turning off Windows Update for the time being. Afterwards, I plan on turning Windows Update back on and checking again, and leaving it sit all night. I have run a few troubleshooters and it did get Update 1 installed.

It's also possible that the system is already up to date thanks to MS' decision to make updates cumulative for Win7 and Win8.

In regards to my mom's PC, I decided to just do a Reset in Windows Recovery. It's almost done and I just have to copy my moms documents back to their folders, install Avira Antivirus and set up Opera. MS Office will have to be reinstalled, but not at the moment, thankfully.
