After some time away, I'm going to try and remember to post here on occasion. Smile

However, I truly do not think people should be rewarded for decency toward those who are different. That implies that said different people ought to be ignored or, worse, mistreated, because apparently anything better than that is sainthood.

Im wondering. How does receiving an award for helping someone different imply that those different people should be ignored? To me, receiving an award for doing so would help raise awareness for those different people, showing that many need help. In turn, that may inspire more people to help.

I remember talking about this on the old forum the last time you received a similar award, but I can't look back at it since the old forum is gone.
I love foxes, especially the one in my avatar.

I'm sorry, did you ask me someting? I missed the question Tongue

Yeah, I'm on Facebook a lot nowadays. Find it much more convenient than old-skool blogging.

There are better ways to raise awareness. Award the ones who earned awards, the different people who work so hard to join regular life! Award them. Find real reasons to award them, too, besides "passing for normal". Award them for their unique talents and whatever each individual has done.

... Oh, what a paradox I have written. No wonder I'm so confused. What the heck do you believe when you're on both sides of the equation and helping this way is the unique thing you can do? To specifically answer your question, cpd2009, if something is seen as so monumental that it deserves an award, then it isn't something "ordinary" people think they can do unless they put in hard work that in these situations they would probably not want to put in. "Ordinary" people think they can't befriend different people. They think only people who are gifted in "dealing with them" can. That bothers me. I would be very offended if people thought only a special few could "deal with me" enough to be friends with me. Furthermore, I somehow feel like a fraud even though the people who hired me know I am indeed like my students. It is all feeling like a giant game of Look At How Much of an Exception to Preconceived Notions I Am, and I'll shush now before I ramble on further confusing all y'all and myself all the more.

Well, I'll shush after I say that I should have gotten disqualified from the game on the last day of February or in early March. Because I was not, I feel all the more guilty. I'm sorry for being vague, cpd2009. If we get to know each other better, I'll explain myself more in years to come.

I'd like to melt my plaques down and make them into something useful (cash for my students and former students), but that would only make burned firewood because those plaques are just wooden!

I miss Ben. It's been almost a month without him. I have around another month to go without him.

Apologies for dragging out this topic. I'm more tired of it than any of you are. Anyway, a friend said what I have been trying to say.

Quote:"It shouldn't be exceptional for those 'above' us to like us. When it happens, it is praised as if it is an achievement. It should be the way things already are."

I realize I do more than just "liking" people, but what I do and what I have done is indeed all product of genuinely liking people or a person for their own complex sakes. That's just called friendship, ultimately. It isn't something outstanding unless, on a personal level, I feel like I don't deserve friendship when the tables are turned; however, my personal insecurities shouldn't bias this argument as a whole.

And now I'll quit it with this topic. I feel like I'm not only beating a dead horse, I'm beating its fossils!
