The Spam Thread!
Yeah, although I'm stuck on the idea that they're painfully slow to read owing to the linear way stuff is read on tape.

First and second day of exam passed without much trouble. I'm pretty confident I can get at least 2 B and one A so far. Next week comes the big fish...

Finally successfully rooted ChaCha today. Goodbye shovelware! You will not be missed, especially those that took up megabytes of space.

What kinds of shovelware were on ChaCha before you rooted it?

I'm actually more accepting of bloatware or shovelware believe it or not. I haven't uninstalled the preinstalled software on Greta or Wendell because I find several of those programs useful, or potentially useful in the near future. Wendell has Toshiba Bulletin Board and the excellent Toshiba Disc Creator, and Greta has Evernote and Nook Reader for example. The only preinstalled software I had trouble with on Greta is Nero Express. I thought Nero was a great CD burning app, but Nero Express keeps crashing at the drop of a hat! Toshiba Bulletin Board on Wendell can be troublesome at times too, but that can be easily fixed.

Herman and Fluttershy, the tablet computers, did come with preinstalled Android apps. Most were just links to websites, but Fluttershy had "TuneIn Radio" and Herman has a cool scientific calculator app called "RealCalc". Both tablets came with preinstalled file explorers, task managers, and APKInstall as well.

Alright, in other news....
I ditched my RetroN3 SNES/NES/Genesis clone because the audio on the SNES is so god awful. I tried to live with it, but then last weekend I found my old FC Twin I got for Christmas in 2007. (it's actually a store exchange unit for my first FC Twin that quit working two weeks after Christmas, but it's still a gift). I tested it out, and the SNES audio sounds SO much better than the junky Retron3.

The Retron3 is almost there....it has the original control ports and wireless controllers (that use IR), and it takes SNES, NES, and MegaDrive/Genesis carts. The clone just isn't executed well. The NES is fine besides audio issues, the Genesis portion has somewhat dark video output and sound mixing issues, and the SNES....oh my. They messed up big time with the SNES portion. The audio is accurate in terms of how the instruments sound. It's the audio amp that is messed up. The audio is so high-pass filtered and amplified that all high notes are distorted no matter what game you play. Some SNES games were unbearable to play, like UN Squadron and the Super GameBoy.

My FC Twin I have had for nearly five years, and both portions still work well. I think I named it "Pearl" after one of the four little goose girls from "My Friend Rabbit". That FC Twin is now back in active duty, and I also brought out my FC3 Plus (which is another SNES/NES/Genesis all-in-one, but I only use it for Genesis games) and put that one back in active duty too.

Pictures of the two units coming soon! Honest! Tongue
I love foxes, especially the one in my avatar.

A bunch of stuff that doesn't even work because of regional lockouts.

For example, "SingTEL AMPed". Yes, it streams music, but only if you're on Singapore Telecom's network. I'm not even in Singapore, so I don't know why that was included. Also, "My SingTEL", which allows you to perform various settings to your telco account like changing your tethering plans and data plans and such, assuming you're in Singapore and using SingTEL, which I'm not. And it also comes with "NSP 110" and "Cek Pulsa", which apparently is only useful with some Indonesian telco, which again, is useless because I'm not in Indonesia.

Come to think of it, SingTEL is the biggest offender in the shovelware list on ChaCha. The shovelware I'm forced to take in totaled up to 6MB!

Aside from that, the last update also forced eBuddy XMS onto me- which I don't know what it's for, except that it asks for access to my text messages and Facebook account. From those actions, I think it takes my text messages and post them on Facebook? I don't know why anyone would want something like that.

Re: Using Firefox to fix my problem

No, because I don't want to. I don't think it fair that the boards only work using one browser. After my computer's batteries died last summer and had to be replaced, I had to download things all over. I accidentally downloaded Firefox in Latin American Spanish because I'm a loser, I deleted it, and I don't feel like downloading it again.

I don't think it's the board's fault. The one thing that changed is that we're using a server acceleration service. That could be the cause. Given you're still running Mac OS X Tiger, it could be because you're on a severely outdated version of Safari that doesn't work properly with the acceleration service.

Yeah, but if I don't use an accelerator service, chances are this board of ours would be met by so much spam.

Another thing is that, frankly speaking, using an outdated browser would be like playing Russian Roulette with a clip-loaded gun. Given that Macs are now subject to malware and exploits letting old browsers loose wouldn't be a cakewalk. Especially if you deal with sensitive information (i.e. bank accounts) on your computer.

What Blake said. Grapes, we're not suggesting that the board will only work with Firefox. It's just that the version of Safari that came with Tiger had stop being maintained years ago and thus doesn't support newer commands required by the acceleration service and thus doesn't work properly. Wade had no problems accessing the page using the newest version of Safari that came with Mountain Lion.
