David... you have a TechNet subscription right? Or is it MSDN?

If it is TechNet, do you know it's going to shut down soon?

It's MSDN. And well, had. I didn't renew it. It's been out since three years ago.

As for Android box, well, ok. I guess it's just popular over here because the government is anal and outlaws C-Band receivers and allow Astro to monopolize the market despite protests of the public. And well, dedicated IPTV like TM HyppTV takes forever to rollout.

I do know there are Android TV boxes here too, from the no-name China boxes to gaming/media boxes like to OUYA. However, I rarely see them at places like WalMart. eBay and Amazon are largely the only options to get Android TV boxes here. The OUYA is that Kickstarter-funded gaming console that is going to be released to retail soon, though I'm not getting one.

However, what is more popular are the dedicated IPTV boxes like the Roku, Apple TV and Boxee. The next-gen game consoles are also going to experiment with IPTV.

Seeing as how these big name IPTV boxes are popular among consumers here, and the prevalence of Netflix on game consoles and smartphones/tablets, it's no wonder that the low-cost Android TV boxes aren't as popular as they are down there.

Correct, given that we don't have Netflix and Hulu either, and we don't have Boxee and Roku too. And the Apple TV box only delivers movies if not function as yet another media player box. So yeah.

I was thinking of getting a Roku at one time, and at another time even "Sky Angel" because they have 24/7 Qubo Channel. I would need a faster internet connection though so I can browse the web and watch TV at the same time.

But.. later this summer, my one-and-only ISP is planning on replacing the old coax cable with fiber optic lines. Though it may not provide fiber directly to my home's phone box, it will greatly increase my internet speed regardless, and it will do away with our crappy DSL modem to boot! Smile

Oh... about the Ouya...

I know about the Ouya. I'm not planning to get one because, well, the third HDMI port on Quetzal III is reserved for the Wii U which I will get once Animal Crossing Wii U gets an official announcement date.

Fiber is good. I hated DSL because everytime it rains, my connection gets knocked out and the phone line gets filled with static. Glad I ditched old fashioned copper.

Our DSL modem is the same way, maybe a bit worse. Large amounts of excess static in the phone line will kill our internet connection until I press the modem's reset button. Anything from a thunderstorm to Jasper's old Seagate hard disk spinning up. I'm not sure why that Seagate drive produces so much RF interference... you can even hear it on the FM radio. My other old IDE drive, an 80gb Western Digital, doesn't kill our modem's connection.

I'm surprised the AM radio signal doesn't constantly kill our connection, but maybe the modem can ignore it. At one point in the past, the stray AM signal would cause us to hear the radio station through our telephone handsets.

Sorry I haven't been on, been busy!

Enjoying what few moments of free time I have. Computer has been working better now, it seems the issue was just overheating and our measures at keeping the overheating to not being an issue have worked nicely. Keeping an eye on it though, do have warranty and all.

It's almost my birthday.. not sure what I want. x.x There is a lot of little things, lots and lots of little things.. but what do I want most? x.x

Happy Almost Birthday on my 4 year olds' birthday, Angel!*

*My son, who is adopted, was born nine days before today. We celebrate their birthdays on the same day, since the dates are so close.

Time is strange ...
Like Pongo from 101 Dalmatians said in the animated movie, the past handful of years were "not so very long ago, and yet so much has happened since then that it feels more like an eternity".
