Sandy, are you and your family all right? I heard about what happened in Jakarta. My prayers are with you.

I am getting a good grade in one of my law classes and possibly failing another. If I am failing a law class, it was over a stupid mistake. I took essay style tests for hours and, while my content was good, I didn't format my citations and labels correctly. I formatted them in the way most papers are done, and hadn't noticed special instructions. That's my fault, and there will be several other papers after this. Still, I hope my professor doesn't hate me. I'm always worried about people hating me. I worry my email to the professor makes me sound pathetic for being overly apologetic.

Last we heard from Sandy through Facebook, he and his family are okay. Smile

In other news, I found room to set up Timothy, my legacy WinXP game box I made last spring. I also started playing through Yoshi's New Island on the 3DS. The game plays well, but I just get this feeling that the Yoshi games are becoming too overly cute, and so far, the game has been rather easy, except for secret items which are well hidden. The original Yoshi's Island for SNES equally balanced out the cuteness and action themed gameplay. It's alright I suppose, but I will see how the later levels are.

I was the one who messaged him, if I might add. I'm glad he's OK too, considering the attacks that took place.

I live just outside the capital, so the attack took place far away from me. I was a bit worried about my brother since his school is just several hundred meters away from the scene. but he came home safely in the end.

Seeing the news that came after that, I can conclude that Indonesians are either very brave, stupid, or stupidly brave. But one thing for sure is that the terrorist didn't get what they wanted.

Oh, and Happy Birthday, Prudie. =D

I found what is perhaps one of the most dangerous pieces of Chinese electronics ever made. These are probably commonplace in China and other Asian countries, but not in the USA. Definitely not in the USA.

The idea is noble, but it's executed horribly.

Reminds me of a certain brand of liniment which was a subject of a recall due to how the bottle was designed i.e. not tamper proof and small enough for a child to be easily ingested.

So, I decided to update Greta to the latest Win10 update, Threshold 2, and it seems Nvidia Optimus is completely broken now. Sad There is constant GPU activity even though no programs are using it. Also, Win10 runs somewhat slower than Win7.

I'm deciding whether or not to roll her back to Win7, or disable the Nvidia GPU and run Linux full time.

Decision made... I shall revert Greta to Win7 tonight. And, I shall set updates to Notify only. I don't want KB3035583 to start nagging me for an upgrade that ultimately breaks Nvidia Optimus.

Quite a shame, even though Greta is only used sparingly nowadays. Win10 runs perfectly fine on Patsy and Ruby. Patsy was a fresh install, and Ruby was updated from Win8.1. I guess a direct upgrade from Win7 isn't meant to work well I guess?

Guess it'll take some time for W10 to mature, eh?

It depends. As I mentioned, Patsy and Ruby both run Win10 just fine. I did some quick searching, and other people with Nvidia Optimus laptops are reporting similar issues with Win10

Last thing I tried was upgrading the drivers to the latest release after installing Win10 Threshold 2.

Previously, the GPU switching would work until after waking up from sleep sometimes. The 610m would get permanently switched on, and to shut it off I had to terminate "ApplicationFrameHost" along with restarting DWM. That trick no longer works. :/
