The Spam Thread!
Kiki's PSU went kaboom.

Going to try to see if she'll still work if I fit her with a new PSU. If not, then I'm going to have to go forth with Kiki II, which will primarily be made of parts originally meant for Bingo :/

And then, of course, the retrogaming aspect is lost. I don't think you can run Windows 3.11 properly on a Core i3...

Ow. Did the PSU literally go kaboom, or did it just die? If it literally went kaboom, that would be very odd seeing how all your computers are hooked up to a UPS surge protector system.

Every now and then, Jasper's PSU seems to die as well, usually if there is a power surge during a storm. The power button does nothing and he appears completely dead. However, if I toggle the master power switch on the PSU, Jasper comes back to life. That was a relief to me when that first happened last year.

Why do a lot of villains yell at their captors to come back when they escape?

Specifically, I'm thinking of Licorice Whip.

He couldn't have believed any of the horses would think, "Oh, I should go back to the man who captured and imprisoned me because HE WANTS ME TO"!

I went down memory lane, through the tunnels of my brain, coincidentally coming on an odd little childhood memory. It would be odd for most people. Similar situations repeated for me.

When I was between Benita and Brooklyn's ages, a friend of mine had a friend who didn't seem to like me.

One day, I asked, "Am I stupid?"

The friend's friend said, "You're not stupid. If you were stupid, you'd say, 'Uhhhh, I don't know what two plus two is!'"

Carry the three... Wink

Funny for two reasons:
1. Sour Grapes
2. "Two plus two" has turned into an ongoing pattern for me!

It's sad that I was worried about being stupid, though, and I must have never quite outgrown that.

Yes, the PSU went kaboom. With bright flash from behind, loud bang, puff of smoke and horrid smell.

Kiki has officially been retired since the Mobo is apparently fried - shoehorning a regular PSU in only got me beeps and I can't be arsed to troubleshoot it. Kiki II is now being planned, along with ideas on what to use her for.

Installed Ubuntu 11.04 yesterday; had to turn off ACPI when booting the live disk since it ends up throwing garbled video whenever I run the DVD as is.

Yow! You must have had some power surge or something, or a component in the PSU suddenly decided to blow itself up for no reason. Sorry about the motherboard.

I'm moved back in at Madison to return to DSU for fall semester. Smile

Can't be a power surge. I have a UPS with surge protection and power regulation function. My suspicion is that it's 15++ years old PSU has decided to buy the farm after running for all those years.

Which is most likely the case. And it'll be a PITA to get a replacement, too.

I felt the babies move! Early, to be sure. But I know what this feeling is! I'm so happy I'm crying now. Big Grin

Forget all the sick pain of today, TODAY IS A WONDERFUL DAY.

Perhaps a short circuit developed inside the PSU over the years. To be honest, I don't think electronic devices are supposed to explode when they reach their end of life though, but I just remembered something...

Around 1995 or 1996, my late grandmother was still using an old Hitachi TV set she bought in 1971 or so, and when it died, she told me that there was a big bright flash. It may have failed in the same way as Kiki's PSU. A few months before the old Hitachi died, I noticed that the top of the picture was "folded over" and distorted. It's kind of hard to describe without having visual evidence, but I wonder if that had something to do with it's eventual failure.
