GTA V to be released for the PC and Next-Gen
#1
Looks like we can rest easy with the PC version, then. They've been developing the PC and eighth-gen ports all along since it was first released, but it took more than half a year of speculation before they decided to go for the big reveal:

Quote:Grand Theft Auto V will take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation®4, Xbox One and PC with across-the-board graphical and technical improvements to deliver a stunning new level of detail. Increased draw distances, finer texture details, denser traffic, and enhanced resolutions all work together to bring new life to the cities, towns, deserts and oceans of Rockstar North’s epic reimagining of Southern California.

All new content and gameplay created since the launch of Grand Theft Auto Online, including an extensive array of new Jobs, an arsenal of new weapons, scores of new vehicles, new properties and player customizations will also be available for the PlayStation®4 system, Xbox One and PC with much more to come. In addition, the current community of players will have the ability to transfer their Grand Theft Auto Online characters and progression to their choice of PlayStation®4, Xbox One or PC.

Grand Theft Auto V for PC will also feature a video editor designed for advanced movie-making.

It's like they wrote the game in a stupid esoteric language that only compiles on PowerPC CPUs and they have to rewrite it for x86-64...
The Best Medicine > Magic. Because SCIENCE! can prove the former.

It's more to do with their RAGE framework being so rickety and inflexible unlike Cryengine and Source.

Just think... if they had GTA V run in Source than RAGE, people would have a field day making GMod movies and comics with the game models and objects. Tongue
I love foxes, especially the one in my avatar.

Unlikely. Source is flexible, but not without is limits. For starters, lighting is pre-baked and thus there are no day-to-night cycles, and there's a rather small limit to how big your map is.

I've seen some people try porting IV to CryEngine. Maybe R* should just use that instead of RAGE. OTOH, CryEngine is known to make weaker computers cry :/

Partly the reason why they developed RAGE was for them to avoid paying licensing/royalty fees as what they did with Renderware before, the latter of which became EA property after they acquired Criterion.
