Dead Space
#1
I just bought Dead Space today and installed it. There's one problem, though. While installing one file had a decompression failure. I ignored it and continued the installation, and the game played fine for now. I noticed that the file belongs to Chapter 8, though, so it might not be as fine later.

The file name is "exteriorship_z01.str". Can someone who has the game upload the file for me to download, or ask someone who has the game to do so? Thank you in advance.

Is the game the legit version, or was it just some ghetto-packed bootleg? You might ask the dealer for a refund or a replacement disk.

Well, what can you expect from Indonesian market? Of course I got it very cheap. =P

The place I bought the game is too far from my home, going back there to exchange won't be worth the transportation cost. Not to mention there's no guarantee the replacement will work. Therefore if I can find someone to upload that single file for me it will be much better.

Try copying all the files from the DVD to your hard disk, and then run the setup from where you pasted it. If copying takes longer than usual, or hangs up, chances are that the game you bought is effed up.

Oh, and I'll be PMing you the link to the files, 'tis too hot to do stuff like this here.

Well, I don't have dead space, but I suspect it's a disc error ( common with said discs). Your best bet would be to just get the disc changed. I had that problem with my *ehem* copy of Final Fantasy VII back before Steam came around and made buying originals cheap and easy. The shop changed my disc for me and the new disc decompressed fine.

Edit: I can see why you chose that tho- Steam sells it for US$29.95 at the moment. That's around RM110. Overpriced for sure.
The Best Medicine > Magic. Because SCIENCE! can prove the former.

The content of the disc was a number of 1GB files titled "setup1", "setup2", etc.

As an info, the DVD is already troubled to begin with. Installation of the game and direct copying of content hanged midway that I had to use Alcohol 120% to make an image file of the DVD, then use Daemon to mount the image and install the game from there.

Though something just came to me as I write this. I'll try it tonight and see what happens. In the mean time, please try asking your friends/acquaintances who have the PC version of the game to give that single file for me. Thanks.

setup1.bin or something like that? Must be a repacked version. Is the file in question the only one that's corrupted?

EDIT: Dunno if Mediafire works in your place, but here goes:

Yes, "exteriorship_z01.str" is the only one with problem. The rest parts of the game were installed 100% fine.

EDIT: Thank you! Downloading it now! Big Grin

Let me know if the game runs well, K? I also ran into a similar problem with Mafia II - while the game was unpacked properly during setup, I couldn't finish the storyline since the files for a certain interior (erik_chodba.sds and erik.sds) turned up as corrupt, and so the sub-quest for beating up Francesca's husband was, well, unplayable.

It will be a while because as I said the file belongs to chapter 8 while I'm still midway in chapter 3.

And once again, thanks. I appreciate it.
