Procurement of 600W PSU is surprisingly hard over here. Still needs more time.

I thought of something that may mitigate freezes during web browsing, but first I need to know what web browser you are using currently.

See, nearly every major browser has a feature called "GPU Acceleration", where the browser uses the graphics card to draw the web page inside the browser window. This feature can be turned off, and while pages may appear to load a bit more slowly, the freezing problem shouldn't be as bad as it is now.

Still no news on the procurement. Add to the fact that I'm extraordinarily busy recently...

Here is a guide on how to turn off GPU acceleration in Chrome. After it is turned off, pages may load a bit more slowly, but the freezing shouldn't happen as frequently.

One thing I don't understand about these GPU makers. On one hand, they've been claiming that their cards are more power efficient every time they make a new card. And yet these new cards require more power than the old card.

I remember when video cards use only 40-60w and don't need two dedicated power lines running direct from the power supply box into the card itself.

---

On the topic of PSU, I just replaced Helen's (she's been out of commission for a few months because she can't boot anymore all of the sudden) and she is capable of booting again. This confirms my theory of PSU degradation as well.

That was back when there aren't as much polygons on a typical video game compared to a gazillion or so especially when DX11 tessellation is used. Not to mention shaders and stuff.

New PSU available. The problem now is to actually find time to bring it to the shop.

Do you have anyone in your close family that is able to work on computers, or at least has basic knowledge of the internal components? Installing a new PSU is rather easy.

Well, no.

Anyway, I want to update that the freeze has never happened again so far, and all I did was to change the extension cord (this kind of thing) into a new one. The old one was very old and half of its sockets were already broken.

Let's see if this actually has fixed the problem.

Ahh... that is what is known as a "power strip" in the USA. When working properly, these are best friends for all your technological devices. I have a few myself, as without them, my entertainment setup wouldn't be possible Just don't plug a space heater or something similarly power guzzling into a power strip, or you are in a heap of trouble.

Seeing as how the freezing has stopped since you replaced the power strip, it could have been the old power strip was on it's last legs and wasn't giving the rig quite enough power to run all the components.

Let's see if this works... check back in after a week or so and let us know if the freezing returns or not.
