Computer Freeze
#51
Well... no it didn't fix the problem.

3 Feb: While playing a game
25 Feb: While watching Youtube
3 Mar: While browsing a moderately heavy site
10 Mar: While playing Skyrim
12 Mar: While playing a visual novel
15 Mar: While playing a visual novel
21 Mar: While playing a visual novel
27 Mar: While watching youtube
14 Apr: While browsing Facebook (To be exact, a fanpage timeline with a lot of posted pictures)
22 Apr: While playing a game
1 May: While playing a game - 8.30 AM
29 May: While watching youtube - 10.30 AM

However, notice that the last two occurrences happened at xx.30 clock. I haven't been taking notes on the clock before those two occurrences unfortunately.

Anyway, my brother set his PC to change its desktop wallpaper every 30 minutes. Could this be the actual cause all along? Nevertheless, from now on the wallpaper is set to be fixed to one. Let's see if this actually the one..

Yeah... the latest freeze times seem to correlate with the wallpaper changes. Personally, I just pick a wallpaper and leave it alone until I feel like I want something different.

Just remember this... if the freezing starts again, note the times. If it's not the wallpaper, then it could be a background program such as an antivirus suite.

Tbh, I still think it's the power supply, but whatever works for you I guess.

I should note that windows does a fancy fade when changing wallpapers. Said fade will use 3D hardware acceleration. turning it off and maybe switching to classic theme may help.

Now that exam is over and I have an 8 week holiday, I'm going to have the PSU replaced. I'll do it next week since I'll be on vacation for a week starting Tuesday night until Wednesday of the following week.

24 June: While playing a game - Twice within one day.

This is getting ridiculous. I'll definitely replace the PSU once we get back from vacation.

Good idea. Maybe once the PSU is replaced, the freezes will stop happening.

Have a good vacation though! Smile

Hmmm... The PSU must be getting weaker. If you use an underpowered PSU, they tend to degrade way faster.

I hope so too tha this will end all crashes. Because if not, I'm the one in the wrong because it's my diagnostic.

PS: Did you make sure the shop connected the PCIe power lead to the video card as well?
