Trillian was nice, but it wants to shove ads in your face, literally. They have the guts to throw ads alongside your chat text in any chat window. Plus the occasional nags to upgrade to the "Pro" version. It's an instant messaging application. Why have a pro version?

So, I ditched Trillian and got Miranda IM like David suggested. It's not as fancy looking as Trillian or Yahoo, but it does it's job and it's fast too.

Another thing....

Nero Express. It's the truncated version of the Nero Suite, and it came preinstalled on Greta. Naturally, that is what I turned to when I had to burn some audio CDs recently. First burn, and it worked great! But when I tried to start a new project...it crashed!!

I later learned that Nero programs can crash at the drop of a hat. Start a new project, CRASH!! Hit the back button to return to the track list...CRASH!! I always thought Nero made good software. I remember Nero 5, and it seemed stable. Apparently, David told me all Nero programs tend to crash now. Sad. Greta should have came with CyberLink Power2Go...because PowerDVD 10 came preinstalled!!

What CD Burning program did Wendell come with? Toshiba Disc Creator. It's much much better than Nero Express, and doesn't crash ten times a day either. Too bad Toshiba doesn't make it available for everyone and insists on keeping it on their own laptops.

The UI of Nero Express is meh. Nothing too exciting, but functional IMO. Toshiba Disc Creator is nothing special either, but it's still miles ahead in the stability department.

Screenshots of both apps here for no reason now...

Ugh! Toshiba disc creator's UI makes me think of Metro >_<

Also, flu again. Seriously, you'd think that at the frequency I'm getting them, I'd have developed some sort of immunity by now.

Yeah, flu can be a PITA.
So many technological posts while I was away.

Anyway, there is one problem with my new PS3. One game always freezes at exactly the same spot, and if it happens I only can turn the console off. Unfortunately, the freeze happens in the middle of main story dialogue that can't be skipped.

Does any of you know the possible cause? Is it possible to fix it myself? Bringing the console back to the store for checking is too bothersome, but if there's no other way...

Other titles work fine so far, though. Only this one game (Valkyria Chronicles) has that annoying problem.

Hmmm... Since you jailbroke your console and your games are pirated, the only conclusion I can come to is that the game has some secret additional copy protection code that the person who cracked the game overlook, and the copy protection triggered. As for fix, I'm not sure since I didn't jailbreak my PS3 and I don't know much about pirated PS3 games other than what I've seen online or at shops. But the only other thing you can do is try to download a newer version of the game rip yourself (if any exists), delete the version the shop installed for you, and attempt to reinstall the game rip yourself. Aside from that, no idea but to send it back to the shop.
Might have to check and reinstall the Antispam ACP mod. Latter extension doesn't seem to sniff out and detect spam profile fields, even if it's turned on.
Question here: How does moving files (Ctrl + X) in a computer works? Does it move the file bit by bit, or simply copy the file to the destination folder and then delete the original file once the copying is complete?

I just moved a large rar file (12gb) to my external HD, and my whole computer froze midway. I had no choice other than restarting. After that, I saw that the rar file is in both the original position and the external HD. I can assume that the one in external hd is corrupted because the process was interrupted, but what about the original one? I managed to extract the whole rar without problem, but I have no idea whether the files inside are affected or not.

The latter is correct. Most computer OS will play it safe, by copying the file first, and then delete the original once it's done. This is because it's the safest way to do things, in case lock-ups like what you experience happens. And that's a common problem too. you need to make sure the USB hard disk is formatted in a system that can handle large files, usually exFAT or NTFS. FAT32 has a maximum file size limit of 4GB. If you have to use FAT32, use a program to split the file into 3.2GB parts (4GB is the maximum, but best to give it some head room).

And well, corrupted RAR files will not extract at all, simple as that. If it extracts fine, it's fine.

YAY! BBC Entertainment is available in Malaysia again Big Grin

That's reassuring.
I saw some nice looking flat panel TVs on HSN and QVC recently, and they come in multiple colors, including white, like Greta! Smile LED backlit even!!

http://preview.tinyurl.com/c9eyk7z

But I keep telling myself that I really don't need them since I got Anna-Lena as is. She the run-of-the-mill black plastic, but so are most TVs sold these days. Anna-Lena's picture quality is still great, and I view most of my stuff in stnadard definition! HD of course is better, but I don't have her hooked up to our outdoor antenna at this time, and I don't have an HD satellite box. Most of the shows I watch or record are in SD anyway, and set-top BluRay recorders haven't been released in the USA.
