The second-gen Flashback is an interesting microconsole since not only that it ran on an Atari-on-a-chip ASIC instead of being a NOAC with converted games or an emulator box, Curt Vendel even left out solder points for a cartridge slot on the logic board:

And I really wanted to get this Cyanogenmod 11 port to work on the Epic as well, too.
Blowing the dust off. Please wait....

Dusting complete.

I have a complicated relationship with AtGames, the (in)famous manufacturer of small retro game consoles loaded with licensed games. Some of their stuff is good like the Atari, ColecoVision and IntelliVision flashbacks, and their Legends Flashback seems to be very decent after you apply a firmware update. The main reason people hate AtGames is because of their Sega licensed consoles. For over 10 years, they produced various "Firecore" systems with rather poor emulation. They still released a newer Firecore-based console alongside their HD Genesis Flashback which runs a modded Android OS.

I ended up getting the 2017 model Firecore console, since it may as well be the last of such systems. It was on clearance at a local drug store. SEGA is now developing their own mini Mega Drive/Genesis entirely in-house from what I have heard, so no more brand new AtGames Sega consoles at least.

I'm glad Sega has had enough of AtGames' tomfoolery and decided to just make one on their own. They better make it as reasonably accurate though, even if edge cases such as demos which abuse the system in creative ways such as OverDrive 2 may seem to be of little relevance to practical gameplay.

Random trivia: The parent company behind the Oppo, OnePlus and Vivo smartphones used to manufacture clones of the NES and Mega Drive, and ironically enough, their smartphones' popularity spawned clones of Oppo and Vivo phones in flea markets and less scrupulous retailers.
I was in the middle of a post last night, but the power went out right as I was writing it. On Monday, my area had 70F degree sunny weather. Wednesday? Freezing rain and 30F degree temps which eventually lead to a power outage overnight. Now, it's snowing and we're expected to get up to two feet of snow. And it will probably all be half melted by Easter weekend.

Anyway, I was going to say SEGA M2 is apparently developing the software for the mini MD/Genesis, so there is a chance the emulation will actually be good. For the decade or so that the Firecore was on store shelves, AtGames never fixed the poor sound emulation or the various emulation glitches. Well... I guess you can call the addition of "stereo" audio in the 2017 Firecore an improvement. Don't know if it's just dual mono or true stereo yet.

I assume the 2017 Firecore consoles that flooded markets this past Christmas were either unsold stock or just a second run to help keep their Sega Genesis thing on the shelves for one more year.
I'll tell ya... it's becoming very hard to be a Nintendo fan.

I may not be into homebrew or modding, but it's not illegal despite what Nintendo thinks.

As for me boycotting Nintendo... it sadly won't happen as I'm between a rock and a hard place. My Switch was a Christmas gift and Nintendo still makes fun games. It's a Love/Hate relationship.

Maybe Louis Rossman could share an opinion about Nintendo's management. They are becoming very similar to Apple at this point.
They're the Disney of video games. Both are control freaks and are holding their IPs overzealously with an iron fist. Reminds me of what one of my friends said about the big D when they mercilessly C&D'd a little girl of all people:

ericbazinga Wrote:But seriously, on the subject of Disney's legal department, I heard that one time there was this little girl with cancer, and her family was selling t-shirts featuring her drawing of Mickey on them to pay her medical bills. And Disney, out of the goodness of their hearts, sued them. Pure evil. I'd hate Disney, but they bought out pretty much everything I know and love- Marvel, Star Wars, Epic Rap Battles of History...
I get you on why you can't boycott Nintendo because you already have a Switch and you like their games so much. To me it's like with American Girl making one stupid decision after another causing so much backlash amongst the community. The difference being Nintendo is stubbornly bone-headed yet AmGirl has backed down on some of their decisions given heavy backlash.
After about one and a half years, I finally lost my first DS "Personal Trainer: Walking" pedometer. I remember syncing the data with the associated game card in my DS Lite the night the lights went out, but I completely draw a blank as to where I put it afterwards. I have looked in every conceivable place I can think of at the moment. I checked the pants I wore that day to make sure it wasn't still in the pocket. I looked in various places in my apartment, which isn't that big. I even tried going through my garbage the best I could as I theorized I could have accidentally threw it out. I couldn't find it there partly because it was dark outside and partly because I didn't feel like going through week old food garbage just to find a small pedometer that may or may not be there.

Luckily, the whole Personal Trainer package came with two pedometers, obviously for two people. I can transfer my player data to the other pedometer to keep my walking stats without having to set up a new player. I'll have to do that until the other pedometer shows up again... if it ever does.

I know the pain of a 5400RPM drive. Greta's old 320GB drive was a 5400RPM and was the reason why Windows 10 was so slow. Now with that new WD Blue SSD in place, Windows 10 now runs like it should.
Well if I have the money to burn right now, I would've bought an SSD for each of my rigs in a whim. 5400RPM ain't going to cut it.
Oh and on a note related to the forum's initial purpose, SSC franchise creator Muriel Fahrion recently edited the Wikipedia BLP on herself and the Strawberry Shortcake page. I did take the opportunity to ask her about the Penny Arcade controversy and she mentioned that she didn't pay any attention to that at all, preferring to "stay healthy and stay positive."
