Busy week, but at least the next one will be much more lenient.

Well, the now-infamous Government Shutdown here in the states is over, as well as raising that stupid "debt ceiling." All is well until January and February, when they will be probably fighting amongst each other all over again over the same issues.

I'm sure the reputation of our government in the eyes of the world has been altered because of this.

James, and thus our family, might be invited to move to Switzerland. This would be roughly ten years from now, however.

Interesting to hear that. I would love to visit Europe sometime (mainly Germany or Hungary), but I doubt I will ever get to go there.

Well, Windows 8.1, the somewhat anticipated update to Windows 8 was released on Thursday, and I just got done upgrading Audrey. Installation took about 45 minutes, but the download took about two hours. Windows 8.1 is nearly a 4gb download.

So far, so good. Only thing that doesn't work is the DFX Audio Enhancer, which I was wanting to buy soon.

However, there was one issue that came up during initial setup. At one point, it wants you to sign in to your local account. It seems logical to do this, but once you do sign in, you are then asked to create a Microsoft Account which will then be linked to your PC account. I don't want this personally, and it took awhile to find out how to skip it. Turns out, when the Account list appears during setup, you need to click "I'm not <username>", and then Windows will continue setup without that Microsoft Account.

Seeing as how I had to find that cryptic way to get past this screen, this is a stealth way to make people sign up for Microsoft Accounts. Most people will be fine with one, but I don't need a Microsoft Account as I prefer to have unique, separate accounts for all my PCs. I'm also concerned about the potential security risks that these types of accounts provide since they are linked to your personal accounts on your computers. It's supposed to make things easier for people, but I don't entirely trust it yet.

At least in Windows 8, there was an option to skip this, albeit very small and not very noticeable.

Mavericks is a free update O.O

Well done Apple. You've convinced me to upgrade. The main reason I didn't upgrade to Mountain Lion was that my cash was being reserved for my war against the bronies. Giving away Mavericks is awesome (too bad the war is winding up and I lost ).

Considering that they made a mother lode of revenue from selling iTunes/App Store items and of course their devices, it won't be that much for them to just hand over copies of the OS for free, which is the first time since System 7 was released.

Mavericks? For Free?

YESSSS!! I don't need to fork over any money for the update then. However, I do hope this update improves performance of Lilly with all it's new features.

If not, Lilly is a failure.

EDIT: Downloading Mavericks now. It appears that iLife and iWork have updates that won't run under Mountain Lion. This will be interesting.
